Hello,

My friends and I were having a discussion about trance, and it seems we all categorize some artists under the same category, but not always call it the same.

In other words, how do you call what Infected, Skazi, Exaile, Psycraft and the likes do? A friend called it Psy Trance, but that's too general. Maybe it's Metal-oriented Psy Trance? Maybe Happy Trance?

And what do you call what X-noize, Xerox and their likes? Psy Goa Trance?

Is there a comprehensive list of genres somewhere?

PsyTrance is an abbreviation for Psychedelic Trance which is really a very general genre name.

Under "psychedelic trance" you will find a multitude of subgenres.

Full On
Dark Psy
Progressive Psy
and so forth....

Depending on who you talk with they have different needs for differentiating between music using genres, therefore people will not always use the same genre names for a certain piece of music.

To add to the confusion, not all agree on what embodies what, so you will need to build a basis for comparison with most people you have to relate to in that manner.

For me - This is how I label the artists you mention.

Infected (Soft Full On/Israeli Full On)
Skazi (Karaoke Full On/Ibiza Full On)
Exaile (Karaoke Full On/Ibiza Full On)
Psycraft (Israeli Full On/Full On)
X-noize (Israeli Full On/Full On)
Xerox (Israeli Full On/Full On)

For me, the most exact music to desribe the essence of "Full On" is stuff from 3D Vision Rec like CPU, Theoreme, Absolum etc.

Soft Full On is stuff like Silicon Sound, Protoculture etc.

Israeli Full On/Full On is what I call much of the stuff released on Hom-mega. I believe some also call this "High Tech Full On" or whatever.
I think this is the kind of Full On which we see being most popular these days.

Again - This is just me, every person makes up these genres in accordance with the environment they "grow up in", in conjunction with where their personal musical focus lies.

Best Wishes

Hmmm...
Well Krell thanks for the detailed effort. I guess you're right and the important thing is to have a basis for comparison with the people you talk to...
Karaoke full on is awesome...
