I think it's really funny that for some people the assumption is that because GMS are one of the most well-known acts, they must be Israel. I'm sure they'd laugh if they read that...

Israeli trance have never been psychedelic. It's fluffy mainstream pop that's being copied by israeli "artist" no. 5002. And the best in the world. Nahhhh not by a long shot! Well maybe to 12 years olds just finding out there's something called "trance".
And now to another point!
Trance = to get into a state of trance. I dont think one full on artist from Israel or for that matter the rest of the world manage to create music that put people into trance. Few bands do that and they are way more repetetive and deep. Full on is all about fluffy melodies and rolling babslines. POP and nothing else than POP. Hardly anything to do with trance. |

Deja vu anyone?
.............. israel is the biggest psy-trance nation, again, comparing to it's size... Germany, UK, Australia, Greece, Japan, Sweden, Denmark are also very big but it's not a consensus as it is in israel. an example for that is the fact that almost every big music event in israel has psy-trance artists in it's line-up,
plus many mainstream artists and rock bands collaborate with psy-trance artists.
First i would like to agree to the fact that isratrance is not in lack of variation.
Me.. I mostly listen to isratrance (used to anyway). But of cource i listen to alot of non isratrance as well, because i feel that other countrys (especialy scandinavien psy) is more "true" to the real psychedelic goa concept. Isreal makes to much isra-full-on, (Give the unknown acts a changse to.)
But but but.. here comes what i fear will upset a couple of isrealiens in this forum.
Isreal made this scene BIG.. yes we all know and agree to that. The problem with Isreal is that its (to) big in isreal. And a natural effect of this evelotion, is that more and more and more kids of isreal wants to be like their big heros and make psytrance. Sorry to say that 90% of those kids dont even know the meaning of psychedelic music. And so this evolution grows. More non-psychedelic people makes psytrance (full-on) .. The situation is different in scandinavia IMO. psytrance is sooo small here that everyone/most that is publishing psytrance/goa in scando, makes.. well "real" psychedelic music. Isreal made this scene big, so i also fear they are the ones that are "destroying" the scene by making it to mainstream, and about the money.. So when psytrance is this big in Isreal, its also infected by capetalism.. Coca-Cola sponsors ect. And in my opinion, thats not good. Psytrance is a scene that can not efford to get "to" big.
Isreal is not the best psytrance country at all.. It used to be, but no longer.

Azax syndrome, hujaboy, dark soho --- brilliant israeli artists, as interesting and creative as anyone else. . israel has the same amount of good music coming out of it as anyone else but since its more popular there per capita than anywhere else int he world there is just more shit to filter through.

I think psytones sum all of it in fine way. |

you're just asking for a fight, eh?
there's been a lot of Israeli psytrance that's really really psychedelic, and there is still a lot. and yes, a lot of crap also, just like everywhere else. if everybody really liked russian style trance, people would be saying the same damn things they're saying now about israeli.
just how things are..

The whole Israeli 'victory trance' thing is just a huge expression of ego to me, and nothing to do with psychedelic spirit at all. Some Israeli artists (like those that Zero mentioned) write music about other things than how big their wallet is but many do not in my opinion. The popularity of Israeli artists I think has as much (if not more) to do with the Isreali business mentality than how 'good' their music is, although you can't fault the production. |
