quote Brainavat "I think what people forget with pyschedelics is they were originally used in the modern sense as brain washing agents. "

The users intentions play a major role in the outcome of the experience and relationship the individual has with the substance.

By suggesting that the culture associated with psychedelics is limited to the tones set by Leary and Huxley negates the 40,000 some odd years humans have been using psychedelics. Remember that psychedelics are being used by as wide a spectrum of people as you can imagine, I personally know homosexual anarcho communists as well as capitalist jet setting businessmen that all use these substances with wildly different effects and reasons.

I urge you to reconsider the assumptions you make about other peoples psychedelic experiences. In research conducted by Daniel Pinchbeck as well as the extensive reports archived by the Erowid organization profundity can manifest itself in even the most unlikely psychedelic experiences. People often report seeing incredibly archetypal imagery such as crossess, pyramids, multi-armed devas, aliens and animals. Why are they seeing this, remains one of the greatest mysteries. But to say that these visions can be reduced to the stylistic leanings of those who happened to get published and widespread fame is disrespectful.

Why does much of the shamanic, spiritual and trance oriented music that has been passed through the ages have certain similarities?

certain tempos, certain droning qualities.

Why does spiritual/shamanic/altered state oriented art have reoccuring motifs,

Illumination, multiple eyes, mandalas.

That being said there is no one true psychedelic culture as you said. I mean, A fascinating aspect of man's endless pursuit of the farthest reaches of consciousness is how many different ways we figure out how to get out of our heads.

Certain shamans of Siberia use dance specifically as a form of transmutation, believing that they physically become an animal or transcend to a different plane. the trance dance ritual at a rave is quite different 99.9 of the time, but it is possible to evoke altered states of consciousness through dance.

Psychedelics can be used in any which way, but if you treat them like party favors you can expect some pretty bizarre and confused parties.

Brainavat: The dance can trigger so much, nobody tells you what to see, but all get some of the same images projected.. Also we are all dancing together, as a family, great feelings.

You need set and setting, a college house party is not the place if you want to get into shamanic vibes (but anything can happen). Better then to go out in nature and stay there some days and get int the groove in a natural way.
