Trance dance as a meditation is it lost?

I can't find parties here in UK that play music that works for this anymore. Too much stopping and starting...kick rolls etc....sounds like old skool happy hardcore.

How did this happen?

Because artists (and subsequently, DJs) were tired of being ignored and want to be noticed.
[snide (?)]
Album sales are down so how else can they get paid? Playing parties. How can they get booked? Popularity. How to get popular? Get noticed. How to get noticed? Play music that keeps people's eyes open and hands in the air like they just don't care (cos they don't, really).
So, no trance for more than 1 1/2 minutes at a time followed by breakdowns, buildups, upsirens, kick rolls (like you said) and the usual formulas you hear these days in prog, fullon and darkpsy.

oh yes it all boils down to money

I am sure there are those that don't care for money and have a love for the music and scene

maybe it is time the scene set up a collective, so we can separate the money grabbers from those who actually give a shit

Hehe
So true...

Money grabbers changes like everything, at first someone can be true to the art but in the end change to become a money grabber! its hard to judge as we live in a world that get more and more dependent of money and we all become more and more enslaved!

True art dont feed from money but from emotions, feelings, thoughts and creativity

There is no clear correlation between profit potential and perceived "commercialization" of music. I mean, there is this idea that the artist who makes "popular" music must be a sell-out or something (and I put "popular" in quotation marks because nothing in this scene aside from Infected Mushroom and maybe Shpongle is actually popular). By extension it is the starving artists making music true to their souls, right? Except that these ideas are all bullshit generalizations. It is more complicated than it appears.

If you want an explanation for simplistic soulless music made by formerly psychedelic producers all you have to do is follow the white rabbit.

All I can speak from is my experience in the UK.
And here mostly definately there is a split emerging between psytrance as a music genre and as an aspect of the larger older psychedelic culture.
There is also a seemingly dichotomy emerging between those that want to create and work towards something larger than their own personal goals, a sense of "real community", and those that really seem to "only give a toss about themselves" and their immediate peer group. m2p

I have pretty much stopped doing stuff that involves 'the main floor'

IF I want to hear snare rolls and constant stop starts there is hard house

IF I want to hear fast beats there is gabba

IF I want to hear immature melodies and riffs there is the already mentioned happy hardcore

but as it happens I dont...

I do agree with Jody that a split is developing between those that care and those that dont give a fuck - it can be easily seen when a 'party' gets reviewed and people are complaining about people taking a shit on the main floor and this is inside a building - I suppose that deals a fatal blow to the Respect part of PLUR

I still love chillout - a genre where people havent quite yet been tied down by a bunch of rules and the apparent desire to become part of a 'uniform' sound something that 'may' stem from what is becoming the homogenous fashionable hippie look - at least some of us have managed to maintain the desire to be unique as far as is possible

I still DJ it both at events and on an internet radio station but I havent actually 'gone' to a party since about 1999 - for a long while I could close my ears to the music but now it has gone beyond that

Also currently involved in a project to move what I can do and have been working on towards a more commercially orientated marketable product
