What's going to happen in the future with ALL the cd's you purchased and collected over the years. The music is changing constantly and you have to follow the newest trends to be up to date.

It's not that I'm not interested in new music, in contrary, I discovered new styles over the years that are much more satisfying compared to the tracks released between the borders of the psyscene. To name a few if your interested..progressive and nu-breaks , electro and tribal house... etc.

Besides the fact that mp3 makes the music (especially electronic music) less special and magic (how ironic), the market is doing very bad and is overpopulated with untalented producers. there are creatives who can't work with computers and there are (to many) computer addicts who are not at all creative.

nothing lasts, not even the collaboration between Posford and Raja Ram. But what bothers me the most is the fact that I can't listen to all the cd's Ive got in my case, I just don't have the time anymore. I feel spoiled and a snob when i look to all that plastic. the consumption society has taken over the whole world (almost), and I feel like a victim. This results in a world out of balance, quantity over quality..also in the psyscene.

Is there a better option? maybe...

What do you guys do with all your cd's, recycling?           www.omnipresence.be

I am not a DJ, so I don't feel compelled to buy every hot new release to satisfy a dancing crowd.

Right from the start (Year 1995 for me), I've only bought CDs that were perfect to my standard. It began with Hallucinogen - Twisted, and my last purchase was Talpa.

Pretty simple rule : If I'm not blown away (and I mean much more than just "yeah, that's very good") by 80% of the tracks on an album, I don't buy it. That's why my collection is pretty limited (something like 80 CDs I guess), but they all please me still.

So, recycling is out of question !

i can't help but feel the same, being in your situation.. i've purchased album after album, putting my faith in some of my favorite labels, only to be totally disapointed by some turns over time, and surprised by others. Im the type that doesn't really take the time to listen to samples of the tracks before purchasing, i just go with the tracklistings..

To try and answer your question, i have no clue what is to be done, because i don't want to recommend downloading your music, but at the same time, it gets costly to purchase all your music, especially if your paying for 2 good tracks on an album.. maybe labels should only release singles with 4-5 TOP notch tracks, and sell them for a smaller price...           "VA - REWIRED" OUT NOW !! quality all the way... except in some cases, for old school stuff I already own. Sometimes it's not worth getting some low rate for an old vinyl even if I no longer enjoy the music. New releases (post-millenial) are different - if I lose interest over the years they go straight to the sale pile. I constantly sort my current collection and find stuff to get rid of so I don't have more than "necessary" (a relative concept certainly). New releases, I grab everything online for a full extensive preview first, and then make huge batch orders of records... got 30 CDs coming my way this week and I'm quite happy about that needless to say out of those, how many will I end up selling? Hard to say, but I hope no more than five... usually I only get burned when making a 'blind purchase' i.e. not previewing the heck out of a release first... thank goodness for MP3s because there's only one or two labels that consistently deliver, and even then they've got a few releases I find to be duds and would have been unhappy about purchasing...

this is indeed a very good alternative... and imo Digital Structures did a very good job with their colours concept (maxi single) releases. it's diversity that matters and that's the way to go.

for example I purchased a few mp3's using beatport.com and 3beat.co.uk and burned them on cd. you can pick the best tracks and make a compilation that is diverse and fun to listen to (containing progressive, house, breaks and even chill-out). The negative point is the fact that the package hasn't the same value because it's a cdr and you have to print out some graphics and label the cd to make it shiny in it's case.

I buy about 50% less compared to 3 years ago, to know that distribution networks offer us now 200% more cd's compared to 3 years ago... and that's what really bothers me. 'there's to much of the same to discover' -> and this is the point
where psy reaches 'mainstream'.

maybe this is a common consequence of the present , the time we live in ... but we can't realise it intensely and keep on buying because otherwise we would be bored. besides the fact that It cost me more time selecting quality.

And if I may. I must say progressive is the basic spirit behind goatrance. combining several styles to create new dance music and have fun. the scene is relatively small and has much (quality) to offer (but don't forget, nothing lasts).but there is hope, for example 'border community' is unique, fresh and dificult to fake.. has nothing to do with 'psy' but feels like the future of music. and I'm loving it. thank god this still is quality over quantity.

am i the only one who buys just for the sake of owning it? i have lots of trash in my collection because i buy everywhere i see discount prices. of xourse quality is still more important...i only buy cd's for their normal price if i really like them, also i buy old rarities...but that doesnt change the fact that i buy everything cheap that comes under my nails, being it good or not so good, for the sake of having a wide spectra of styles in my collection. this way i even can offer some music for my friends to listen while they're at my house, stuff that i wouldnt buy for its normal price.           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!
