Defo nay. Definate mood killer/ psychedelic trip stopper/ built up party energy changer to the commercial side..

Especially in the morning/ day when the vibe has been building throughout a night or couple days and the dancefloor energy is nice and psychedelic and the rig is totally warm and humming belting out those special psy frequencies which are constantly challenging and engaging ones aural senses. I would think to drop in a pop vocal line right there and then would totaly just kill it and break that built up mold.

Well, for me anyhow

It can be quite funny to hear some cheese when it's not during a peak hour. There's also a difference of just playing cheese and playing cheese well. Overall I can't stand more than an hour of it per 3 day.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Doesn't it depend on the quality of the remix, plus what track your going to do?
Some breaks could easily be remixed without anyone crying.
Plus if people did a good enough remix, wouldn't it be possible psy could get a bit more good publicity for a change?

Pop = Popular?

Well i never really heard a psy pop mix.. its more of this uplifting trance...

Some granulizer on the voice and lsd effects, hehe... some heavy chorus and flanger..

many just go for some clean pop sound and not psying it enough and add more humor..

If it's a well crafted rmx i would say absolutely YaY

How many times i wanna listen a michael jackson tune rmxed with fat kick-bass combo and psy noizes, even just for bringing some external sources to the trip

Hence, the more popular is the tune , the more the rmx gonna be done well!

Bad news is that usually pop artist are signed with majors, and they laugh a lot when asked for rights&tracks to be rmxed, especially if it is psy i think

this one 4 example (not psy) i prefer the rmx to the original inxs one

i say do what makes you happy and that good music is good music, just as bad is bad. sometimes after working on "serious" music for a long time, i'll crank out a remix/rework of a "pop" song i like for fun. of course, my definition of pop isn't really top 40 pop, but stuff like lamb of god... in fact, the remixes i've done of lamb of god's material get requested by people quite often when talking to me before i play...

It really depends how you do it.

If you pick just the right part of the vocal and do it in a way that's not jamming it down my throat then yay!

If you model the bassline and all the synth hooks on the original track... well that just grinds my gears!

nay. i've yet to hear a good example of this. i like it when pop songs get completely fucked over in some harsh demented way. a grindcore band covering some abba is awesome. it also totally works with breakcore, which doesn't really take itself seriously. so turning some lame wimpy tune into a 170bpm distorted gabber kicks and cut-up amens maddness is total win.

but most psy versions just end up sounding like eurodance.           https://soundcloud.com/dead-end-dance

it depends what the song is remixes and how.
sometimes its like Septa say: eurodance but it need not be so.

here is an example: my remix of apocalyptica - in memoriam:

I was very surprised that he met with such a good reception
