obviously its not that deep trance stuff that puts as in...well, trance. but I do like a good pop tune and considering a lot of bootlegs of big pop tunes are big and smash the dancefloor of other dance genres (techno, house, breakbeat...etc), do you think that they have their place in some of those fun moments on the trance dancefloor where you can put a smile on people's faces playing, cheese! and lots of it! BUT as a pisstake that would (arguably) make them bikini tops and bottoms, bounce?

haha, that would be typical you
I say one should do what one wants to do, if one wants to do a Britney Spears trance mix one should do that! there are lots of people that love that stuff...
and maybe you can play in a club!
but my general opinion would be nay...
still some might sound catchy and its all about how well you do it...
Good luck with the cheese, carve big pieces!

It depends what you do with it, if you make it sound like the original then Nay, yet if you make Britney Spears mixed with drug rehab, an then mangled through a bit of psychedelic distortion, then it might be a fun Yay.

jaja nice one...
yea I think it depends on what kind of pop.cuz if want to do a rmx with Christina aguilera or Enrrique Iglesias, were are going to have a problem. XD jk.. no I think the beuty of music is that you can do whatever you want with it. is your song, so is your world..there audiences for everything in this world. diversity in tastes.. just be sure not to play your enrique iglesias rmx in a darkpsy or hightech party, cuz you might hear the crickets...

I doubt if you're playing club people are going to hate it. They'll love it.
Girls that want to shake their asses aren't usually on heavy drugs - just alcohol, or coke if you're in some big city and they think they're fat haha. So ruining the experience shouldn't be a factor here. If you're doing some heavier psytrance festivals I'd say skip them unless they're done very well and only with specific songs like 12 MICS - LSD. "I want my... I want my... I want my LSD." best switch to psytrance song I've ever heard.

I'm gonna join the choir and say NAY
I don't know...in my experience the 'smile-on-everyone's-faces-and-hands-in-the-air' moments come simply from tracks that are plain good and have a superb flow of energy. Not saying it couldn't work but not my cup of tea at a trance party.
In a regular club full of drunk people though I think it would be the tits! |

This is the starting point. That said, should be anyway a funny try and a good exercise to improve your skills with long audio samples (i realized my lacks in that way watching some hiphop producers working).
I don't exclude that you can obtain very enjoyable results if you choose a good song to sample (btw are you sure about pop? could be just rock or whatever?;)) and you transform it in a creative way.
My suggestion is to think less and play more cause only when you can listen to your work you (and us) can say how it is!

as a pisstake? no. i hate tracks which are crap but are just passed off as a 'pisstake' and ok. that's not ruling out a sick remix of a really good pop tune, but just make sure it's good and not gay and isn't going for the lowest common denominator. |

doesn't work...at least for me.
everytime a dj makes an attempt to play such a tune at a party, the party is over for me...at least until there is a dj change ^^
the idea isn't bad, often thought about such things too...remixes of not even only pop tracks, but also good old psychedelic rock stuff and even old punk stuff (so much energy...i was one these suckers loooong time ago ^^), but i don't think it can be translated to the psy genre, it just won't work.
maybe you get some smiles from the dancefloor for it, but as the "main theme" repeats again and again, it just is TOO cheesy. if you do it subtle maybe, but you have to fuck around with it and really twist that stuff during the progression of the track...quite tricky.
but...good luck! ^^
