I sometimes look back at the music I grew up on, before electronic trance existed (or if it did, I sure didn't know about it). I notice I was always drawn to songs that had a trance effect.

Here's just a couple favorites:

Deep Purple - The Mule (off the Fireball album)
Black Sabbath - Supernaut (off Vol. 4)

I'm not talking about psychedelic, I'm talkin about songs that had a rhythmic or musical trance element.

What are some others from the olden days?

actually almost any kind of music has a trance effect.

those are different types and speed of trance

you can easily perceive the trance effect or rap music, with their specific movements and postures.

rock: just observe the movement of the heads of people playing or listening to rock (the spinal column often going from back to front and so on)

reggae music is a slow trance, with litle jumps that is an entire style of trance in itself

look at the behaviour of jazz player when jamming together , they seem completely haunted

you can be in trance without any movements... inner trance(listening to classical music for example

etc..etc...

goa trance is a bit more diverse than the previous ones and raise the art of trance to an edge
diverse it its rythms that can go from 80 bpm to 180 bpm
(even if goa trance after 145 is not for me !! )

diverse it its sounds when the dj is good enough not to play eskimo/gms/skazi/infected etc.. for 2 hours

and diverse in the ways dancers and trancers express themselves in their movements
