This thread may belong in the North America section, but it has such serious repercussions that I had to post it here for all to see.
I cant believe it happened, I wont believe it happened... but there is a law going through congress in the next few months that will totally ban all electronic "non vocal" music from being played at any public venues... in effect they are shutting down all the clubs that play house/techno/TRANCE and it will be illegal to hear it??!?!?!?!
Folks, this is the NOT the "Anti Rave Act" or the "Extacy Act" this is the real deal... they are targeting the music directly. The law is being nicknamed "The Anti - Electronica Act", and it is going to its last phases in ratification. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Michael K. Powell (son of Colin Powel the current Secretary of State) has been quoted "It is time to do away with evil at its source and clean our streets of the drugs and the broken families." Being this is an election year, president Bush is doing the best he can to satisfy the bulk of his voters - white Middle America protestant Anglo Saxons. With the recent onslaught of FCC activity revolving around the Janet Jackson boob slipping "accident" America has accelerated its fight for censorship and more governmental religious control.
One of the top agenda's of these groups is to shutdown clubs and electronic music venues due to their belief that they are a "source of evil to the influenced surrounding" Lowry Mays,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Clear Channel has been one of the more dominant voices in this struggle to rid of electronica: "Music in that way that its done there, cannot be considered true music... it does not have lyrics either."
It does not look good right now... if this goes through, and I think it will... trance will officially die in the USA. I don't know what it means to other genres and I don't want to deal with their trouble because this is a bit too much for me here... I have 3 parties planned this summer - July 2nd with cpu/logicbomb, Aug 13th and sept 17th... I have no idea what will happen first, the law being passed or the shows but to me it's like a funeral now... no purpose for this.
It was going to be a glorious summer

what happens today if you play at an outdoor party? you don't get shut down ?
im sure there will rise some underground party line.... or something.
It sure looks lame though

Its just like the church did hundred of years ago.
It didnt allow any rythem in the music. They were (the church) affraid pepole will connect 2 their body \soul by dancing 2 the tunes of a rythmic music.
Canceling the body and concetreting on thinking threw the brain only was their main aim.
History.....present...future...

oh damn....just agree with the misjudgement by themselves they are advanced, but in fact more than just puritan.
But I have relevants in the USA, and I tried to talk seriously with my aunt about that topic at least I am a trance DJ and I felt it was needed. She was so damn biased about the music and its happenings, that discussion last maximum 5 minutes, she has had more radical thoughts than I expected from any politician, and she is / was german before she gone to live in USA 12 years ago......
I've heard this law might be realized, cause there shall be very big so called "raves" with more than 15000 people, where many many kiddies about 14 - 16 years old use lots of drugs and makes it attentive to people not involved in such scenes where its normal to have fun !....this means NOT to use drugs is fun.....
ok I could write novels about my thoughts to this criminal act to influence a whole scene, a lifestyle.....a movement....
another evidence in my believe in the USA !
