It seems that most of the psy trance artists today are also DJs.When new artists realese a single/album they automaticly become DJs/preformers.And correct me if I am wrong but the main cash flow comes from DJ-ing.So if I want to make a living out of my music I also have to become a DJ?Are there any artists out there who are not DJing at all?THNX!!!(...maybe I'm in the wrong directory?)           ===>

I'm not DJing... I'm definetly not making a living either

Anyway, people like DerDritteRaum, Eat Static, MWNN, and Juno Reactor are to my knowledge not DJing...

Fist of all is better is you start being a bit realistic, living out of psy trance is almost a impossible mission, you need to be one of the most booked artist in order to achieve that...i'm just saying this to avoid some disapointments and frustration in your future...

About artists DJing, lots of artists do not DJ, I wouldnt even say most psy trance producers are djs...

i wouldnt say most of the artists dj too. but in the parties in switzerland the live act often dj's as well. for myself i prefer to hear full time djs djing, not artists. i dont like their sets usually, i guess most "djing artists" do unspectacular sets with a lot of the very same material (new, own trax, trax from artistfriends etc.), but thats my opinion.           Anakoluth A Pebble in Your Eardrum's Shoe since 2001!

@anakoluth...
I have seen a lot of people keeping your opinion also. Consens like: Good producers aren't good Djs. I think that it is good to have Dj-Skills for an Artist, too.
The times I (for an example I take myself now) had to play a Dj-Set was always very cool, but not realy satisfying, because the track-pool is just a set of compromisses and not exactly the sound which wake up in my visions. My budget is also not so big to buy 3 new CDs every month (I hate playing mp3s on partys, [and every Dj, who do that should be burned by the next thunder from jerichos heaven imo!]).
Producing is the true way to realise the sound-visions while Djing is just the feeling like a part-time-musicbox with two hands and a brain. (just depends on myself, not generalized!!! May all the very good and respectable Djs out there not misunderstand me, please.) So I realy gave up Djing.

Anak: I see your point. On the other hand, when you know how to produce music, you will be able to spot new and exciting artists easier and skip the 13 in a dozen other artists for your dj-sets. When you dj, you stay up to date a bit and listen to more new music when you are looking for new tracks for your dj-sets. Also, you learn that different tracks have different functions when used in a dj-set so you can produce tracks with those functions in mind (is it a track that will draw people to the dancefloor ? / is it a groover or a mover ?). So i guess producing is good for dj's and dj-ing is good for producers, so why not do both ? And of course dj-ing is fun, so why not dj if you are already into collecting music ?

But like FluoSamsara said: there is barely any money to be made in the Psytrance 'business'. And maybe that's a good thing, because most people in the scene are in it for the fun and the vibe, keeping the vibe pure.

That's not what i said. I just mean that there are only VERY few people making enough money to eat and live just from the psytrance business, not that those people aren't pure Who am i to judge the purity of other people ? But IF there was a lot of money to be made, i suppose it would attract producers who are only in it for the money. Of course i'm not sure, it's just what i think. There's nothing wrong with making good money by doing what you love. Don't get me wrong.

I think there a also alot of Psyproducer, who started as a DJ. There is one time a DJ donot get satisfied with the released sound, so he start to make his own Tracks.
