I need some recommendations in light of an event I'm DJ'ing soon, it's traditional Japanese-themed, tea, kabuki, etc..

I am aware of the better-known Japanese artists like DJ Krush, Susumi Yokota (!!), Rei Harukami, Ryoji Ikeda, but none of them make anything remotely connected with the traditional Japanese sounds (plucky strings, taiko drums, and such).. just curious if there anything out there like that. I am told Bjork's new album is heavily influenced by traditional Japanese music, but only heard clips so far.

so, any recommendations?
          ..it's just another party..

There are 2 tracks by Taichi Masuda in Tribal Matrix, a compilation by Dakini. Also, check out Ochi Brothers.

Hifana are defenetly not chill, but as vector_0 said are awsome.SOme of their more downbeat stuff may fit a chill set tho.

IkueAsazaki-Obokuri Eeumi

Is one tune I play very often when I do a chill dj set.
Actually I am about to do a remix for this song (just finished the agreement).Worth to check it out.

Tao Drummers are very interesting too.

And AINU OKI DUB BAND : they just released a new cd a while ago and they melt traditional Ainu music (indigenous of Hokkaido, north of Japan more infos here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ainu_people )with dub music.

Peace out
