Hi, interesting but strange question imho.

Did electronic music killed traditionnal music? Off course not. Both are essentials today, and sometimes they meet and make awsome interbreeding. BTW, most of the times the best electronic producers are also very skilled with "traditionnal" instruments (electrypnose, who come from a musicians/Stringed-instrument makers family, is a very good example here).

It's exactly the same in visual arts...Just have a look on digital painting master's work (andrew jones, randis albion and many more). It's 100% digital but their amazing skill also come from "traditionnal" art (i don't like this expression), they are also real masters in handdrawing and paintings!! All the amazing 3D movies and FX than we see today are always made and think with pencil and paper first.

Creation is creation, it's the only important thing. A medium is just a medium, a support for the brain expression. I think we have to use ALL supports than we can or feel connected with. If you want to make good electronic music, it can be clever to learn piano first, if you want to make killer 3D stuffs, it will be much more easier (for the creation process)if you learn the basics of drawing before.
The mistake that many people make is to think than with modern electronic stuffs we just have to smile and push the button (most of the time because they don't know anything about the subject, just go to make listen your favourite psytrance track to your grandmother, i don't think she we'll call it an evolution) ...Real work and passion make the difference with any mediums.
Sure you can make a shitty fractal by pusing 2 buttons in 2 minutes with photoshop. But you directly see when "art" is only based on fx and easy tricks (all those shitty fluoro fractal we see evrywhere is one of the best example)...You can also work hard and use the maximum connections of your brain to make an amazing multicompostiting stuffs with all the killer tools, old and modern you can find...

Hard work always bring to an evolution, the easy way to a regression/stagnation...nothing to do with the medium i think.

Welcome...

It depends of the project. Most of the time, also for digital, 3D or photomanips, i like to start with a quick sketch...Just to check the idea. Some are 100% handrawings but i like to ink and make colors in photoshop.
But it's a feeling, some projects don't need handdrawings. But in everyprojects i use a pen tablet, so finally i'm always drawing. For me those technics (based with pen tablet) are the perfect mix beetween digital and traditionnal. When u use a pen tablet you are painting with pixels, so u are making something traditionnal thru a technological medium.
...I love it, pen tablet changed my life.           http://ayalien.deviantart.com/

If you allready have a pen tablet, (a good one?) you should really spend more time on it. Specially if you manipulate pixels (well, it's also great with vectors)...It's definitly the ultimate tool.
Also with recent 3D softwares like Zbrush it really opens new dimensions, it's superfun.

Very best bro

I think somewhere in between fits perfectly. My personal goal is to combine the traditional with digital, seamlessly, into the final artwork to create somewhat of a mystery for the viewer. That being fun, its also quite the journey

Offtopic - Both of you will def be interested in this -

Im trying my best to get my hand on the above : ) WACOM has always delivered for me and with this they allow the further push blurring of genres           www.imagyne.org

omgomg!!!

Inkling its evolution!! Its gonna change a lot in digital design... this way we are not limited to the brushes and vector lines, its all in our hands to draw .. a mix of a scaner drawing and a tablet drawing .. beautifull beautifull ... =)
I saw its gonna start selling this month ... got to get one of those. lol.

and bout the topic ... Imo both have its own value ..
I do all my digital art with my own traditional drawings. So cant do one without the other.
In traditional drawing its about evolving the tecnic and expand creativity.
I try to pay attention till the smalest detail and shapes on paper, choose colors and shapes that are harmonic ... trying to create in my own style.

And then ... after the Traditional Art its done, i scan it and mix with other traditional drawings .. sometimes random, sometimes with purpose, its all bout the moment i am creating.

I really like scaning my traditional art cause in digital world we get infiti possibilitis to the same drawing. Cause in traditional art, when its done .. its done. Its gonna be the same till u try to change it and its never a good idea.. lol .
The digital art it opens the same art to a full infity of possibilitis, your creativity its the limit.
can change colors, shapes, crop another image from the same image.. and stamp it another way .. etc ..

the traditional art will be traditional forever, and u can always use that same art to create infinity of art in the digital world.
how cool is that!? lolll.
Love it. =)

But im doing some partys decos now adays and the fact is that ppl dont appreciete whats printed.
i got this next gig, and ill have to mix both digital and traditional. even tho i said that my digital art its a mix of my own traditional art.
i think its cool to mix it .. both things happening at the same time in the backdrop.

but dont get why this non appreciation bout printed art ..

what u guys think ?

Printed Art I would say is as good as Traditional/Oil on Canvas - I mean its difficult to say which has had more of a work process but - if the outcome touches you deep inside then I feel that that piece has accomplished its purpose.

The first CD cover i did for a Psychedelic artist was a journey to feel the music - the raw pounding energy and to create something in between that complimented the divine forest energy with the digital aura. I hope i accomplished that emotion for the buyer/artist/viewer but deep inside once i finished it - I felt at peace Same with the Shanti Jatra logo - a sketch that became a drawing - that became a painting that became a logo, an interesting journey for me personally that spanned over two years

I'm think that a piece needs to fulfill the artist first and then be displayed to the world - where it becomes whatever the viewer chooses it to be. It could be any form/medium of art - if it speaks to you its existence has been achieved.

Check out mentioned CD cover - http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=135906523125044&set=a.135906139791749.29731.132185200163843&type=1&theater

Check out the pure digital art and printed canvas ( it took me as much as time as a full blown canvas - sizes mentioned in t he mail

The balance between Traditional and Digital is blurred but imho the most imp factor is the artists journey through it - an experience I cherish and I know you lovely creators of music/art and creative expression do too

ps - apologize for the image plugs guys - but I would appreciate you to comment/critique what Im saying (about traditional & digital) vs my work - after all Im here to learn.

i just meant to say that with the increase use of digital art, hand drawn painting is getting limited to a rough sketch, even for me wen if do a sketch it automatically drives me to do it in digital, but since i m still an amateur wen it comes to digital drawing, its actually more difficult for me than drawing by hand.but yes digital art gives it a extra touch of perfection n its more appealing to the eyes.

even i used to like hand drawn paintings more than digital, but once i started working on digital drawing i know now it does require same amount of patience concentration vision knowledge n skill n a lots of practice.but i Think the best part doing digital art is u can always fix yor mistakes n yeh as FULLMAYA said it,it opens the same art to a full infity of possibilities.

but in the end as Ayalien said it creation is creation n ther r mediums to put our visions on paper, whatever helps the cause is the best.

thanx for the input n start its been really helpful n encouraging.ashwin nice art brother.following yor work on facebook.
