Track - To the past or to the future?

Hey all,
I was listenin to this track which i heard first time at a party months ago...and then i got this question on my mind that why does sometimes the music takes me back in time to a certain place & time,and some other times the same track can take me to a whole new dimension,like its future .
Question is,does music take you back in time or pushes ur imagination to the future?

well,there are certain tracks(mostly non trance) wich are connected with specific times and places and bringing to my mind nice memories.also the same think happens with perfumes for me

well, listening to certain tracks, most of the times hearing oldies, takes me to the parties i went when i heard those tracks..or sitiuations that marked me, and whenever i hear those tracks i transported to those places.
