Cool man, u see most advice givers say that u can make gr8 music with no knowledge, taking for granted their own experience, this feeds this "idea" that u dont need to do music theory if u wanna be a really great musician. Just wanted to give my 1 pesos worth and dispel that illusion.
Anyway whats ur definition for "instrumentation"? |

My definition of instrumentation is which instruments to use for which situations. In Psy Trance to me, this means picking the right sound for the job.
And to all those cowboys out there... learn theory . It will stop you asking many a question. It's so much easier to write music when you know what harmonises with what. Say you have a melody that you like and then want a variation to follow, once your mind and ears are trained to recognise which notes have which effect i.e. minor 3rds have a very strong effect on the mood. you will know by habit exactly what to do to acheive the best movement.
I'm brushing up on my jazz theory at the moment as I like the way that jazz musicians have the knowledge to play a series of notes that can ask questions and add an air of mystery, like in those old detective films. |

Copying a track structure from an existing track... sheesh, the audacity. You suck. You seriously do. People like you redefine "copy paste music" in ways that are absolutely sickening. Please, stop this. Try SOME creativity, like... doing what you feel like? A bit of "self expression" in your "music" wouldn't kill anyone.

well you obviously are not a real musician or have ever tried to learn to play an acoustic instrument.
how do you think ever single other artist outside electronic music learned to make music? By learning tons of songs EXACTLY!
People go to music school to learn to
"copy" other peoples music.
i would venture to guess your music is unlistenable. |

after 4 yrs of writing music , every 2nd track i write , has a different structure and dosent sound like other traks !
its always different , coz im not thinking , how i did my last track ! im thinking , what does this track need ? what trip does this track carry on so on !
and i spent writing atleast 15-17 tracks , before i got my basic track structure , that i was happy with and that thankfully didnt sound like vibe tribe or electro sun ! |

I definately agree to wavelogix, when we write 15-17 tracks we come out with a nice track and this way we develop our own style:-)
Wish I had this much time, but that is the key.
"practice" and it gives you new ideas for producing and also for laying down the structure

It's cool to see someone say this, I just made the decision to go to college for music composition, theory, etc...and get my AA. I used to think I could just do it with out, but it just becomes too difficult. I guess time will tell. I'm just glad I decided to go for music instead of audio engineering.
I may go for engineering after but I figure I want to be a musician more than an engineer so I need to go to school for music. Now I just wait for school to start this summer. |
