| certain tracks which are true master pieces i can identify............but others which ive heard numerous times before and i also know how exactly they are gnna go i cant identify..............its such a desperate situation trying to rack ure brain on the dancefloor to get the name/artist right.......some times i do manage afert a long time ......sometimes i dont.........
lately i have given up scratching my brain...jsut enjoy the music

oh yeah, i know this problem very well...
but i wouldn´t agree with the "masterpiece" theory.
i think that the more impersonal, the better and the more cosmic/ psychedelic it is (not in general, but often)
tracks that can easily be recognized immediately often are superficial/ facile...
a challenging, experimental track can hardly be easily recognizable... |

I have a friend who doesn;t know the names either, but recognizes the tracks # on the c.d.
He's like "oh yes, it's track #7 on the Son Kite c.d"...

well for me the worst is putting in the next CD that i want to mix a track from and then, before i can cue a song, i've forgotten what CD i just put in. and i have to open the deck and be like, oh that's right....
a lil too much out her in oregon i guess...
either that or too much 'Lisa it's your birthday, happy birthday Lisa'...
yeah and i'm always like, oh that's this comp, track # 5. i've no idea of artist let alone title... titles??? yikes, i have a mind like a steel sieve... |

I'm sorry to feel diferent about this. Sometimes it takes just a sample, or a guitar riff, or a bassline for me to recognize a track.
For me, it is easyer if a track is challenging and somehow different.
And i do agree at certain point with volvox box. Today's music (trance in particular) is lacking of creativity.
They don't sound the same to me, of course, but it's hard to recognize a track, since many artists use similar basslines, similar effects, similar samples...
OK, there are some artists who do have their own particular style and sound, and can be recognized immediately (X-Dream for example), even if we don't know the tracks. Btw, one thing that really pisses me off is to ear on the same night/day a track played 2 or even 3 times. This happen to me many times.
This is just my point of view.
