my advice is not to waste money on more crappy speakers, better yet invest in room acoustics and good monitors.
the samson resolve monitors are pure crap. i had them when i was starting and who ever says u can make a mix with them that will compete with todays standards is wrong.
the samson rubicons are much better but still in the cheap league. get some good monitors, your mixes will thank you...
there is also the thing of knowledge, mixing technics and experience. but still the monitoring equipment is very important to produce a good mix. you cant mix what you dont hear (or in this case, hear wrong).
you can play this guessing game for years and not come up with one HQ pro mix.
about headphones, headphones are good for tracking, not mixing HQ mix. you can get ok results with expensive monitoring headphones, but i think its better to invest in monitors and acoustics then in headphones. |

@ 0hz
so which monitors would u recommend? below 1000$ for example. invest in room acoustics hmm. 1m distance, speaker on ear height and with stands? what else to do to improve acoustics? |

So true. They color bass a lot and really weirdly, its a waste of time.

I find it sometimes hard to detect frequency clashes or slight unwanted distortion etc on my monitors (especially if there's a lot going on). Maybe because they're not top of the line, but using headphones I can hear these things more easily so for me its a good point of reference.
That said, if it sounds acceptable in my headphones I'm usually happy with it because nothing (even released tracks) sound good in flat headphones. I would never sit and just listen to music using those.... |
