Hi to all,
are there anybody who licensed and used any trance/ambient tracks to his/her movie?
What's the way to use tracks legally for budget movies?
Sharing any experience would be highly appreciated,

You contact the publisher of the song you want. They will tell you about the conditions.

Let's get the facts straight here
In a case like this you always have to get the permission from the copyright holder (the artist/label) via the artists him/herself , the record label or the Publishing Agency.
Not from the copyright organisation!
A copyright organisation can not give anyone the right to license a track. They do not have a license to do business deals for the artist/labels or Publishing Agencies.
BUT they can inform you about who to contact to obtain a license deal
A license can only be granted via the above mentioned channels.
So to answer the original question.
You must contact the artist, label or Publishing Agency and get their permission to use the music. |

Thank you for the information. In the meantime I've started another topic in the Ambient/Chillout section with details of our project.
Anyway, it's a good starting point
Cheers,

just to complete christian, if afterwards you show your film in a public place you'll have to pay the performance rights org. and if you make copies for sale you'll have to contact the reproduction rights org. (in case the artist is registered...)
as to who to contact. released tracks will usualy have the copyright held by the label. unreleased by the artist. publishing co. needs to be contacted only if u make copies. Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.

Just a question -
Let's say I've released a track, and it's copyrighted and everything.
Can I do with the track what I want? Play or give it?

Well you're the one that own the copyright so in principle yes.... BUT and yes as always there's a BUT
If you want to put your own music on the internet (your website ect) for prelisten then you properly have to get a permission from your copyright organisation. At least thats the law here in DK.
Of course you can give out your tracks to whoever you want to.... Just not to a 3rd part in connection to release ect. That option is only for the label you have signed with. But for free to friends ect. Thats ok... If you ofcourse trust them
As for playing.... yes deffinently

Mike, if you are registered with a local copyright org. then you can't do anything you want with the track.
