Kinda curious. When I am writing music, the intro is something I usually don't even worry about till close to the end of the track. I have several tracks that don't even have an intro. Most released tracks I have heard have intros. How do you guys feel about intros to tracks? As a dj, I skip past the intros anyway, so when I make tracks I don't put that much effort into it... I wanted to get some other artists opinions on track intros...

I'm a bit of an intro junkie, most of mine last over a minute!
I think it depends on what the track needs.
I mostly use intro's to set the atmosphere of my track up, normally building up to a high point where the bassline or kick can be dropped in.
Even bizzare intro's that only last for a few seconds can be good and give the listener a little "mini" journey before the big trip starts! |

Intro is a big part of the track,
Its one of the importent things on a tune, I think the intro gets you in the track & as PsYmAnTiCs=] said : it sets the atmosphere in some way.

i do the same thing too sometimes...
i'll do the whole track and then work on the intro..
but lately i tried to do the intro first and i found it was helpful... u can get in a groove and progress nicely from there...mubali maybe try doing that see if it helps... otherwise i really like intros, i like those nice pads and little blips and stuffs...

Gotta have a good intro.
Only a few tracks that I've heard have gotten away with lack of intro. |

i sea music as a story that need to be build from start to end.. u cant start a story.. "the man died" no onw will understand what the story is all about .. the same with music or trance... u got to have intro things buliding up then outro.. hope understood me

"The Man died" can be a start....maybe then u can say why the man died...stories needn't always progress linearly (imho)...so many movies use unsual story telling patterns (pulp fiction, memento etc).....don't know if the same can be said of music though!

i think we realy do not need intros for dancing-pa-system-music. but some of them are realy good break-tools. but this are just a few ones. for listening at home an intro is maybe more important for givin the listeners preparation. |

Most of my tracks i start with no intro ,,,just work for the BL KICK start later on i add the intro and it's musch easier couse you got the main story and then you can take out any motive and put it at the begining together with other sounds (pad, kit ETC )and then you start the story with a motive sound that will come later in the track.
I start my tracks making the intro first only if i have an idea about some kind of itro which good for start ,,,nice sound i created ETC...
BTW don't forget we are making music ...yes this is dance music and a lot of the times this is the aim of the tracks but still we deal with music and you should create it as a musical song and not only as a dancefloor track.
Zooter you right the first name that jumped into my head when Toxical said you can't start a story with the words "the man died"
was Quentin Tarantino - genius - almost all his movies start with "a dead man" hehehehe
