Hedonism is a part of the scene. Sure. But it is not (at least to me) what it is 'about'. Hedonism is maximizing pleasure with as little pain as possible.
Pain and hardship are essential parts of the experience - I don't think anyone goes to a festival intending to have that experience...but it is certainly very instructive. Just look at your 'bad trips' - IDK about the rest of you, but one bad trip shows me more about myself and the inner workings of my mind and what I need to deal with than 1,000 hedonistic happy trips.

I think there's a difference between being free spirited and being nude/having nudity be acceptable at a festival and condoning open sexual acts. There was a fair amount of nudity at the first psy festival I went to...It was a 4 day starting on thursday and the first night there was no electronic music, just tribal drum circle around a fire. Definitely my first experience seeing topless hippie chicks get all freaky around a fire.
There was also a nice tiny river/stream/creek thing and at least half if not more of the people swimming and sunbathing were naked.
However, not once during that entire festival over the course of 6 years that I went did I see anyone fucking in public or doing anything much more than making out. I walked past some tents that, judging from the noises anyways, contained some rather intense orgies but everyone was respectful enough to keep their private business private. As it should be.

Its more and more obvious to me that some people in this debate haven't understood a word of what this scene is (or should be) all about. It's not about sex or hitting up that sexy bird on the dance-floor.
I believe OOOD explained it very well earlier in his example of girl - friends being allowed to dance and enjoy THE MUSIC without being chased down by the usual dumb ass horny Joe.
And no thanks to sex on the dance-floor or in the open. This is not a porn movie (go rent one or join a swinger club). It's about music.

never once in my 10 years of partying in this scene have i thought about sex IN the party itself (what happens in the tent is something else  ) - i love all those sexy faeries and im sure they love dressing and feeling sexy, but the distance from being sexy and beautiful to actually drawing it towards sex is pretty far (from what i saw at least). i mean, from my experience, anything romantic/erotic that happened to me in a party/festival happened when we sat down to talk or swim or whatever had nothing to do with the party itself
all this mass orgy bullshit doesnt attract me not a single bit... i honestly felt like people were doing it for the sake of participating in a mass orgy (or fuck for forest for that matter) and not because of the free love concept or anything like that... they just like to say its all about free love cuz it sounds less dirty or more like they have a cover for participating in that...
then again its just my experiences and point of view... |

music alone doesnt make an scene, you need PEOPLE and people also values other things. Yes we come together cause we love music, but we also share some values and most important we feel "in our place".
Go and make a poll at a festival : why you like to come to this place? surely music will be no 1. But many will state "cause the people is cool", "cause its outdoor", "drugs" etc etc.
You know Humans tend to have different preferences, music is just the minimal common interest.

I never actually said anything about actually screwing.
Dancing in a sensual fashion with another person does not always lead to sex straight away.
BTW to OOOD, plenty of times when I took my then girlfriend (now wife) to psy festivals/events in Australia & Europe she said she found the drug f#cked psy tripping hippies to be foul smelling and always wanting to hug here.
It may not have meant to be sexualized, but the stench of dope n' other drugs, unshowered & unbrushed teeth just made her want to puke more than any dude in a normal club or commercial rave that might have tried dancing with her or even pinched her ass.
Also she & many of my female psy friends said that they find in more commercial clubs/raves/festivals they found guys were more like to take no as the answer, whereas psy parties becuase of lack of security and most people are tripping their tits off to notice they found blokes to be more persistent in trying to take unwanted advantage of women.
I know statistically in my home town that I heard of more rape occurring at psy related events than at house or RnB type places

Concept is hella cool, but the dubstep is weak. Could be done better.
Charley Sheen is epic.
