Hail Eris!
this is no wonder, considering the fact that i have gone 15 years to trance parties. to remind you , in the 19th century female hysteria was treated "with massage of the patients special parts of the body by the physician to cause orgasm and later with vibrators and water spreys", quote from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hysteria
being a part of a scene that is so unrelaxed about sex to such extent cannot end in anything else than hysteria.

Interesting perception/projection there. Tell us more about why you think the 'scene' is unrelaxed about sex, and why you think that's a bad thing?
Ever since I discovered goa/psy/trance in 1994, my female friends have been telling me that one reason they enjoy those parties (apart from the music) is because they don't get hassled so much by horny strangers. Please, tell me why they're wrong so I can go back to them with reasons why they should enjoy being treated as a piece of meat.

your perception/projection is even more interesting. why should a vivid interest in good qualitative sex have anything to do with being perceived as a piece of meat?
with unrelaxed attitude towards sex, i mean that a vivid sexual interest usually disqualifies you as less trancy, less psychedelically elevated, less noble. whereas it is footprinted in every single cell of the body we inhabit during our journey on earth, that we should take care for our healthy satisfaction, unless we wanna end up in hysteria or any psychopathic missbehaviour. this potential disqualification restricts the scene to a general commonly accepted form of behaviour, well at least if one wants to be perceived as intelligent human.
talking about sex or being interested in healthy good sex or looking like someone who is interested in all that, will generally disqualify you in this scene as someone who is not interested in other more noble things.
your friends are not wrong and it is certainly a great experience not to be treated like a piece of meat, although i rarely saw this attitude in the first ten years in the scene anyway. beiing older now, gives me that advantage. but not always. being perceived as less noble is always existent. actually this is a scene that would perceive you as less noble even if you refuse to clothe in funny colourful stuff and do insist on wearing belt garters or any other thing that the most intelligent women in the thirties in the times of femme fatale did.
btw i was heavily joking here. but yes, indeed , in all those years of trancing i really did see and experience a lot of things i could comment and report on this topic. really a lot. i am that kind of person who witnessed a lot behind the curtains of the scene, especially about sex, and about the sexual behaviour of many many different people. not that i ws involved. i was just there. i never felt like anyone would understand and respect female sexuality as an intelligent form of mental engagement.
but we had a kind of interesting topic on that already once. a lot can be said.
to me personally i never think of sex while i am psychedelically tripping.
wow, i just lied heavily. it is to complex to elaborate on with only few words. i go now.

This scene is about hedonism: enjoy good music, enjoy recreational drugs, enjoy spirituality, enjoy sharing, enjoy meeting people, enjoy diversity, enjoy sex.

^ I actually bought the single when it came out (on vinyl of course), along with Slayer's Haunting the Chapel ep on tape.
Thank god for disco and speed metal in the mid 80s.
And the title of this topic keeps popping this 90s classic in my head:
