for you those who mix in the Chill area, do you still gets "chills" in your spine, because of the emotion, the thrill, of playing in the Chill Out of a party?

For years I was the only chill dj in the scene, used to be the only dj in the chill tent for whole weekend (48 hrs).

I'd have some premixed stuff to play when I needed a nap, by usually the only other thing was some opiate based pain killers & a bottle of vodka to crest a very light hazy floating mood.

I also decked out the tent always with loads if cheap comfortable cushions, tea light candles in unbreakable containers (stumbling hippies break things) & incense burning (had some great coconut scented ones years back).

Also I alway had a stocked fruit basket that I'd replenish for anyone to come help themselves to (bananas, apples etc.) to take a break from the crap hot food being sold.

Was good times in the late 90's-early '00s           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

It`s a thing, I just enjoy. Even if I am nervous. It is a feeling, passing.

I do. And as Gunter says, a little bit of nervousness before i start playing, and then I'm usually fine and just enjoy it.

Usually my hardest part is deciding what track to play first. After that everything usually falls into place.

How did you go a3k?

^^ well it went..not a total disaster, since i got paid as agreed, but the fun part where i was able to play some nice new tracks i had upon my sleeve, was dificult cause the mixer, was not a proper one, i did not had pre-listen avaliable so you guys can imagine..and i played from 4.a.m to 6.a.m. and damn it was cold lol

i played mostly ambient tracks, cause i did not knew what parts of the tracks i was on, cause of the non avaliable pre-listen in the mixer

the team that assembled the aprty were very nice, and we overcomed those issues, since i know how hard is to start making partiesd, but i told them this is a very essential part, and not every single dj uses laptop..

i even ask the team members, if the system was ready to play in ther afternoon cause i wanted to have a try out before playing at night to see how the system worked, but it was not assembled yet.

well i guess in the overall it was nice because of the vibe, they were really nice persons and they are starting to give the first steps on making parties, and i understood.

well, it will go better next time

ps: i was still anxious before starting, but it faded way from the moment i played the first track..it gave me time to relax, and become aware there was no pre-listen in the mixer           ...

Cool. Not being able to pre-listen certainly makes things a bit harder where beats are concerned - and even when it's just ambient.

It's always nice to hear the tunes you like on a proper sound system.

Glad you enjoyed.

No pre-listen? Uh! Reminds me of one time, where this also was the case for me. One needs lots of intuition then
Well, we will have a Chill Out Floor this week on a Goa Party here in my town. We will organize it as fine as possible. Althoug one thing a lil bit sad is, that mostly there is no money for the chill. I would like to get some names, e.g. MM

^^ yep unfortunatly parties and orgs are not paying to much atention to the Chill area, a very important part of a party. i guess there isn´t the need of invest tons of money in a chill out, but at least, please orgs make them warm and friendly with a nice decoration.

a Chill is alwasy necessairy in a party were people can relax if they want to, or also dance, without being in the dancefloor.

lets hope this trend of not much attnetion to the chill can change in a near future

and best of luck to your party Gunter.will you play in there?           ...

I am decorating, doing entrance and DJing on the Chill. Now pre-preparing the collection, dubby mood.

Yup, we really have any good chill out even at the big festivals here in Melbourne, if not Australia.

If they get a big name act they chuck them on the main stage. Chillout seems to be mainly dubstep which is not relaxing in any way if you're off you tit's or need something to chill your brain & ears.

A few years ago I had made plans and looked into doing a full gig of some great international chillout & world fusion for a night but when I looked into the interest hardly any punters or promoters were keen.

It absolutely sucks because I much prefer a good chillout session than slamming prog or crapstep.

And to not have a proper mixer with prelistening is just pathetic. IMO if you can afford to pay the DJs & other costs you should be able to rent a proper 2 channel mixer at least.

I'd have told them to keep their cash and just not played.           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!
