Artist : Tomic
Title : Groove EP
Label : Spiral Trax
Release date : nov. 08
Trackist:
1. Groove (original)
2. Groove (Karl Johan rmx)
German producer Thomas Wagner has long been supported by the blond sexy captains –Bakke especially– behind the wheel of Spiral Trax, who have released a couple of his tracks at their label. Prior to and since these releases, Iboga, Heat & especially Fraud Recordings have also played their part in establishing Tomic’s renown, with the single “Taktgefuhl” reaching an enviable position in the Juno charts this spring. This new release is a teaser for his upcoming artist album at Spiral Trax, to be preceeded also by a string of remixes.
Tomic : Groove (original mix)
This new instalment is crispier than his usual ouput, although it unfailingly serves up his blend of galloping progressive trancey beats and somewhat returns to his early taste for percussion flourishes, thereby endowing the piece with an effective tribal groove. It’s pretty straightforward, as the break avoids the drama of a climax, and would have gained from a little more fantasy. But a solid dj tool, as you would expect.
Groove (Karl Johan mix)
Karl Johan is a new young producer from Sweden who makes his discographic debut in this release. His rmx fuses the alluring drive of a Franck Beckers’ former style funky bassline (the Plaza rmx for ex.), and the bluesy harmonics of a gentle lead. The extra synth arrangement moderately draws on techy arsenal equipment to spike extra momentum and plays a more effective role in the crescendo and the rolls in the break. Keep an eye on this guy, there’s more in the pipeline.
Bottom line
Nothing groundbreaking in terms of originality, yet two well-crafted & reliable Dj tools. The remix gets my preference.
