First of all the book isnt a tutorial, its just some advices from some producers.
PoM i feel your point on this and i agree 50%.
I just want to give you an example...
I have a friend (well known producer) and i heard a new track of him that was very good. I liked his bass so much (he was tried a new technique this time, the bass had a great taste). I call him and i visited him in his studio. He sawed me what he used to give this magic taste on his bass. Now the point is :
Ok now i know the technique, i will do it exactly the same? The answer is no. I will try to build a new idea on this and i will give my personal taste. Thats my point. You must go the sound one step farther each time...
Another example is this great tutorial from Colin:
http://forum.isratrance.com/sidechain-compression-alternative-phase-inversion-on-a-gated-group/
Because Colin gave us his great idea we cant do it?
It's up to our mind and hands to make our personal sound.
Ofcourse the most of things you must to learn by yourself with practice but new ideas and advices is always welcome.
Cheers

it s not black and wite , i just wanted to show one of the downside of it.
i like some tuts like the one from psiloCyban that are well made...it sure can lead to experimentation but these are original imo.
it s not like a cronox bassline tuts made to show how to make a full on bassline that sound like many other producers the guys that are intrested in this.. by experimentating by themself may have find a good sound that is original and more unic it s also more rewarding |

The strange thing in these days is that most of new tracks sounds the same... Its strange cause with this great new technology and tools we have we should listen fresh ideas and sound...
Fortunately there are still good producers out there

i think a reason it s cause many want success so they do what they think will sell or get them booking.
other reason guys from my generation or before were not as much influcned by other artists of the genre as there was no psytrance before...it was still new.. while today ppl listen psytrance since very loong time it may make them more formated and their main influence may be other psy artists |

You seem very passionate about all of this. Any personal experiences related to bad soundlikepro tutorials?
While you do have a point and it has brought interest to the conversation I must state that you seem a little jaded. I perceive this kind of attitude in most veteran producers. This stuck up super wise grandpa mindset "you kids want it all fast and easy, back in the day you'd have to craft a psysquelch using only sinewaves through scripting on amiga systems...." meh.
Yes this used to be another thing, more handcrafted if you will, but hey what about we adapt to the world of today, technology singularity and all this speedy internet breakthrough.
Is not about making mediocre tracks and copying others, is about contributing to this MASSIVE INFORMATION NETWORK not just in quantity but quality as well.
"...let me remind you that information is not knowledge, knowledge is not wisdom, and wisdom is not foresight. Each grows out of the other, and we need them all.”
Arthur C. Clarke
I do make better music because of this forum and the advice / comments of people like you PoM. |

yeah plenty but it dont matter..ppl have to use sell speach for everyhting...if it was quality stuff i would buy it tbh i m always intrested to see different way of producing so it s just i m a bit disapointed and wonder how they can call it pro production.(if you check more commercial musics you will see lot of it )
i m not rally passionate about this tbh i just over reacted...
also sometimes i have the feeling ppl release their music a bit too fast and a few years more wouldn t hurt but who i am to say this..everyone free to do what that want...

yeah but there is some truth in this, nothing beat experimentating for years, it s like sex with a girl with no experience compared one that have some, there is natural born talent offcourse ...but she can watch as much porn as she want it wont help much vs experimentating for long time lol sorry for the comparaison.. |
