Whats wrong with this book? Even the best producer out there can learn something new every day. This thing never ends           ...into the wild....

Nothing's wrong with this book, although it could be shortened to just "do more drugs. -The End".

Peace out.

aciduss i agree with lot of your point but tutorials may contribute to make everyone sound the same imo.
tutorials are also there to explain how someone talented that spent is time experimentating get something intresting so everyone can copy it,how to make that skrillex lead blabla.. some are made to make money out of beginners cause the stuff for sell is not good quality and no one with experience will buy it ..i find it a bit lame personally when it s adviced with bullshit sell speach how to sound like a pro and all this. (not talking about the book)

If you take a time to read the text you'll see a lot on how to find a way to original sound and personal style.

I think you miss the point on helping out other producers, isn't it what this forum is about too?

One could find several threads here on isra about finishing tracks. Next time we can point directly to Tom's book, maybe you can like it from that perspective

On the "tutorials make everybody sound the same" topic, sorry but I respectfully disagree... and even if you were right, there are so many tuts out there that still everybody has the chance to sound different.

This reminds me on the Mike-A psy bass tutorial hehe.

I do get your point too, but I don't think a free PDF causes any harm, quite the contrary.

Peace.

i also disagree with the idea that tutorials make people doing the same thing.
when i first start to hear the same sounds and tricks on tracks (as if you were listening to the same producer ) it was around 1996 with a new generation of producers repeating the same sounds and tricks, but not with the same talent as MWNN, posford, x-dream, youth, etc...
as far as i know there was no tutorial or internet sharing knowledge at that time.

i think that more advices like this e-book can help people to be more creative.
(and less booking of non creative producers can make parties and releases more interessants - maybe tutorials for party organizers or label promoters could be helpfull too )

thanks tom cosm

at that time it was harder to do the same thing ,first just cause of the different studio setups ..you couldnt copy lot of stuff wiithout having more or less the same things or using the same studio..listen to total eclipse acid sound or drums.. you know instanelty it was them, now we would have 200 total eclipse if was today but 3/4 of them rleasing crap

yeah there is good things about it too for sure but i also find it contribute to make ppl more lazzy insteed of experimentating and coming out with their own new sounds ..if everyone use the same technic, the same tools and copy each other it sure contribute to make less intresting/diverse music to me
my complaints more than anything is mostly for stuff that is payware with crapy sell speachs that i find lame, was not talking about this book that i havent read...

the use of same synths and the reproduction by ears trying to approach the same sounds but not with the best results, is what i told.

for total eclipse it's right that they haven't been that much copied, but it's not the same with mwnn, x-dream, kox-box, hallucinogen, youth for e.g. who have been over copied.

Perhaps you're a little off topic then, this a thread for the free book and how to finish a track.

A mediocre person will copy ideas without experimentation even with no tutorials. A creative one will experiment.

And seriously, maybe you should read the small book before attempting to make such claims.

Just a quote from the actual book:

Quote:
My personal theory is that no matter how intricate I get with my tutorials and workshops, nobody is ever going to fully duplicate me because things get so complex, by the time they are even half way through copying what I’m doing, they would have had many opportunities to take their own path and do something completely different, and that always happens.

Albert Einstein - "Creativity is knowing how to hide your sources"

Let the world use the same techniques and sound the same... brilliant people still will shine and find a way to make original content. The rest will sink into monotony.

There are tutorials about almost any subject out there and I still see a world full of variation, competition and infinite possibilities.

Finally... this book is on HOW TO FINISH TRACKS... even if everybody started finishing tracks because of this book I bet none of those tracks would sound similar at all because of it. There is no 'technique' per se... just a bunch of tips and comments on workflow and mindset.

If the internet was up and about wen Simon Posford started he may have looked at stuff like this. Im sure some time early in his career he would searched and needed advice. Sign of the times thats all

i think we all learn most of the stuff we use by ourself at least i did and many artists i know too cause in the end it s all about personal preference ...
now everyone want thing fast and easy it s good but in a other way it s not to me
