He is the one that built mine. Heard lots of people saying he build the best ones with quality components and rare parts. I love its sound, there is no noise on mine either, even when I close the VCF all the way, I have to turn my monitors really loud to hear a very soft hiss of sequences. If I play the rest of the music at the same volume, I'll go deaf. So very noiseless built.

i do not believe the recording chain makes so much of a difference. if it ain´t total shit non pro audio equipment.
just record plain via dac into your pc/mac with no hardware or software processing. if you play melodies and tweak filters then you do get to know the sound of the xox for sure. forget about 5-10% better or worse because of the dac used..

yeah, this isn't the situation here, noise is even audible in the mix :/ i had to put a steep lowpass eq to make it go away.

how loud does your xox output get in full volume open filter no res no mods on? mine is like halfway on my mixer meter don't remember the db but really quiet.
the freebass in comparison would kill your speakers, your cat and your neighbors if left like this.

With 0 resonance and open filter is it very loud. I don't use a mixer, but I don't use much input gain. Not a genuine comment, but its loud. It has the high gain VCA chip in stalled.

ok yeah, then you defo got a different build.
i guess it is not an objective synth to discuss because there are so many variations, sucky/good.
a friend who i collab with also has one, a totally different look and with no mods. i will borrow his next week and compare, this could provide a lot of answers.
