To those who've partied in London...

Hi..

I arrived in London a month ago from a 12 party summer in cape town ready to tackle a new city and a new scene. On the third day here I went to infected mushroom and astrix at brixton academy expected a rocking stomp and general great trancy time, but alas, I was greeted with 4500 sweaty freaks on pills, super hard 160bpm music (until the main acts of course) and a hard house floor dominating the entrance foyer. I loved infected, and the whole show was spectacular, but is this the trance scene here? where is the irie, friendly atmosphere i've grown so used to in cape town? what's up with the brits passion for such hard hard invasive music. nothing trippy about it at all really.
The following weekend i went to a smaller forest party in kent, once again expecting something resembling our outdoor vibe. not to be... while the setting was great, and at times i loved the music, it just degenerated into a revolting pill mash up where insecurity was the order of the day rather than "peace, unity, love and respect". I was on my own for a large portion of the time, and found myself unable to meet new people as i was met with nothing but aggressively pilled up trash.
I've searched the net pretty hard to see if i've missed something, but every trance party seems to be a techno/trance/hard house combo. Am i to assume that as far as london town is concerned this is it? Or is there someone out there who's had a good experience and willing to give me a push in the right direction.
What confuses me is that so many great dj's and producers pass through this place so there must be something here... some small out of the way, unknown club resembling organifix perhaps?
Anyway until then i'm jamming it up to funky electro music which is okay... but when i read on 3am that artifakt, shift and skragg (my three favourites) are playing at upstairs i get incredibly homesick. Oh well i suppose berlin for full moon in July will just have to do...

Hope y'all having a blast back home. keep stomping and smiling like, clearly, only capetonians can.           difficile est non saturam scribere

hey caligula.. sorry to hear abt ur shitty experience..but i party quite often in the Uk( london actually) and i can tell u the bigger parties are justa like that. Except teh NYE one with some class acts like Broken Toy and ManwithNoName.. that was good.. but if u go to a huge party u need a large group...

Look for the 'squatters'... or posta bit on the english forums.. u'll get an answer..
also contact the other South afrikan 'Shane Gobi'.. he'll definitely help u with the squatters in and around london...

p.s stay aways from 'Brixton Academy', unless u like being a vegetable on the floor..
and dont forget camden.. u'll bump into soem interestin ppl with some interestin parties..

I lived in London for a year, found that once I got out of the city for parties the vibe changed for the better, more friendly, 'plurry'

Try get to Tribe of the Frog gigs in Bristol sometime, they are a really cool crew. Are you coming to the Glade Festival? it was awesome last year, the Origin stage was very much what one could expect from a Vortex, if not better (that's asssuming the weather wil be half decent)

i'm quite keen for glade, but at the moment i think i'm heading to berlin for the full moon festival instead. only question is whether or not im up for going to germany alone (i've only recently arrived in London from SA - and i've never been to mainland europe). i'm taking those days off work in any case... how much are tickets to glade? and how many people are gonna be there?           difficile est non saturam scribere

Yup full moon is big, all the names, full on I guess. glade is smaller (8000) more a mixed bag of underground electronica but its going to be awesome that I can promise however tickets sold out very quickly but you can get on ebay etc if you that keen. Have you got a EU passport? Don't underestimate the schelp and expense of getting a schengen visa. Otherwise there is Sonica in Italy 1st week of August, and Freedom Fest (with our man Shift). Check onthe festivals page here for more info)

yeah i have an EU passport... one of the main reasons i chose full moon (aside from the lineup) is that it would be so much more of an adventure than going to glade. I would have preferred the Sonica party but i can't get off work that week. when is the freedom fest?           difficile est non saturam scribere

Like I said, take a look at the festivals section of Isratrance:

If it's anything vaguely like Boom last year, I'll be happy camper. These latinos, they are really up for a party! Also, Tribe of the Frog are involved, so decor should be good (they are also doing the glade and you should really go check out their parties in the UK)

just checked out the site... i think that settles it - im going to freedom fest, not full moon. another bonus is that for south africans its only 35 euros - why is that?!?

also - you think the numbers will be smaller?           difficile est non saturam scribere

Good one Caligula! I don't think it will be hooj, but as is evident from that thread a lot of the euro festival peeps are heading there , so it should be quality gathering. Probably also a good Israeli showing, which is always a good thing

One of their South African connections is with Shift, his recent album on their label and it seems like the Portuguese are into the South African timecode- like sound and artists at the moment. Last year at Boom, they even made it free entrance for us. The environment is a bit like the bosveld in the summer but its next to a lake which was one of the factors that made Boom great. Try check out the latest Boom DVD for what a party in those parts is like.

Tribe of the Frog involvement in the Freedom Fest is a good thing - they really do a fantastic job. They did the celebrated decor at Somatraki two years ago (which was nicked at the end btw)
