i've been having an on going debate with a friend about Devo, yes, Devo-from the 80s ("whip, whip good!"), ive always thought that Devo was one of the founding fathers of techno, mainly from growing up thinking that, cause my two brothers have always told me so, and i watched something on VH1 5 years back, basicly saying so as well.

is Devo one of the founding fathers of techno?

I do belive that DEVO have served a great role in establishing Techno. But I'm afraid that the "Fathers" title goes to Kraftwerk!!!

well i am sorry for all this but the REAL father or grandfather of techno is arik sharon!
well no it was my mistake the gradfather of techno is juan atkins and the guy we like to call father at the techno scene is Derrick May!

kraftwerk and many other dudez did do electronic music !
but techno as such was only made by the guys from detroit.
think about it! real good and only than answer.

as for devo (not being offtopic here) well they had alot of influ on some people but its kinda funny to say they r the fathers of techno.
people did electronic music even in 1920 that does not mean they did techno

I'm goin to take DJBoris side - surely Kraftwerk were the fathers of techno. I can only add few artists devoted to the history : Space, Jean Michelle Jarre (as someone said too) and may be even Depeche Mode

well stats, kraftwerk did do electronic music but it never did TECHNO music.
techno is just a genere hence of music. electronic music is a defenetion with out no reference.
as i see techno as a genere was created in detroit by a couple of guys in the middle of the 80`s.
kraftwerk is another story. cuz people before them did electrnic music!
