In Midi you choose your controller in the bottom, right click to get that toolbox and choose the + tool.
Make sure that your snap is high and just ALT+drag to draw your automation.

automation for audio channel:
first open one of the mixers, lets say the vst 1st mixer and click 'Write' , unclick it, and click 'Read', the read button sais read the automation from the audiomix channel(s), and the write sais write automation (live) during playing, but not all the plugins support writing.
however, close the mixer and youll see a new channel that called audio mix..
draw a part and double click it..
you'll see a list of all the knobs that can be automated...
its sad that you can do automation for inserts only for the first 32 audio chnns.
when drawing press alt (for writing the points).
btw, there is a small bug, if you try to copy-paste there its kinda does cut-paste.. |

| Most VSTi's have this kind of information in the manual (PDF, text, online site, whatever). The sad thing is that most of them aren't the same, like hardware synths.
For example, everyone knows that 74 is cutoff and 71 is resonance. But on softsynths they mix everything up!
Some VSTi's also have the function of modulating faders and knobs by controllers, which are customizable (HALion for example).

in reaktor u can assign whichever controller u like so it's much easier than any other soft synth i've found (besides the native logic stuff maybe) i used a nord to send controllers to reaktor to assign each knob to a knob in reaktor & then recorded these knob movements onto the channel reaktor was on in logic (it seemed to be a bit jittery if i was overloading logic/reaktor). |
