they manufacture all kinds of cables, not only speaker cables. the active shielding should prevent electromagnetic interferences (radiowaves and all that stuff that is in the air) from getting into your system since basically every cable is an antenna.. sounds not too weird for me..

i do agree with you that if you buy proper gear than you arent supposed to get 10 cables, but 950$ ..... get real

well, you don´t have to buy it? for me, i like what this does to my sound and i want to pay it. easy as that..
somebody else pays 90k for a porsche. i would not do that. but i would not argue, because he gets a high end car for that amount of money. i pay the 950$ for my ac cable, and i like the significant effect. so i am willing to pay for the amount of research and the art of production they throw in to deliver a product of such quality..
you don not have to believe me. but maybe somebody else will and thats why i started the freakin topic..
i would not judge something without testing it properly myself..

thats what a lot of people do. that does not mean in makes sense at all. have you ever seriously tried to test the effect of a cable in such a high end system? i wonder why people will stop thinking about quality if they spend enough for the (given: most important) part of their system. everybody seems to believe you put money in a speaker and you get something. i bet almost nobody heres knows shit about their speaker electronics but they would not question the xx€ for that..
for me thats is as surprising as it is for you how i can spend so much money on a cable.. |

My father got me into audio. However, he is is more about show, and I am all about working results.
Our opinions differ greatly (I suspect because he will hate to admit he's purchased something that is a complete waste of money)
I tried his £900 cables, compared them to my thrift store £10 cables. Honestly.. no difference to my ears.
Tested on K&H O300 and a very high end Infinity system.
Even if there is a difference, it has to be negligible given that 99% of all total distortion is due to unavoidable deficiencies in speaker driver design. (There is no zero-mass, infinitely-stiff material for speaker cones). |

bob katz, also often stated here as the mastering guru, seems to enjoy his custom made magic cables. guess these weren´t cheap either.

I have made all my own cables to a very high standard, so they aren't the cheapest you can buy, but neither do they prevent quantum tunnelling. (?)
I think there is a LOT of placebo in tests like this.
Bottom line:
Is there a difference in quality amongst cables: Possibly.
Is it worth the money: No. |

Can you clear out to me what "active shielding" is, by using the term "active" it means it has power connected to the cable? or am i wrong. Otherwise i´d call it a regular shield like pretty much the majority of audio cables have. Or could it be that they have blasted it with discharge from a regular tesla coil and somehow that made it "active"?

Sounds like something you can avoid by using balanced cables

Hey while your at it you should probably get a pair of these as well http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3429.asp i heard they make wonders to your audio
Here is some review from happy users who have spent 500$ on cables:
-I had high hopes for this cable, but I NEVER expected that I'd be able to e-mail my DEAD FATHER! I now have unlimited access to the TRUE "Ether"net, and can communicate with the great beyond. Due to the extraordinary cable, I now know that Elvis is, in fact, still alive and works as a used tissue salesman in Topeka, I know that Ceasar is upset about the whole salad thing, and that Ghengis Kahn would rather have been remembered as the inventor of the cheese puff. The only drawback came when my dead cat Mingie tried to re-animate from the other side via the cable and now I'm stuck with a zombie cat in my CD drive. I'm open to ideas on how to get her out of there without sacrificing my brains to do so.

You're in the wrong place here... this place is for amateurs. The rare pros and nerds who hanged around ran away long ago. There is a few forums where you're post will be taken seriously, I suggest you post it there.

Let me just quote a post from gearslutz that reflects my doubts about this whole thing.
-So, I wonder -- how do you compare? Listen to something, then unplug, change power cord, plug back in, power up, and listen to the same thing again? That's a lot of subtlety to remember over the course of this procedure, and a lot of room for your mind to work on your ears, isn't it?

So since I can afford to spend $50 on speaker cable I should go with a Monster reel instead of Belkin cable that will cost half as much and sound better?
