The TJAK project sprang from the meeting of Gabriel Gomes, Pedro Sotiry and Victor Bandeira . Since 1960 that the latter had travelled through Africa, South America, the South-west of Asia, and New Guinea where he gathered objects from cultures known as “primitives” which, today, are displayed at the Museum of Ethnology in Lisbon, Portugal. Together with this, VB also recorded songs and dances from different ethnic groups, ambiences and wildlife that after a careful digitalization process, are used as raw material and inspiration for the music produced and performed by the Tjak’s.
In 2008 another element Diogo Ribeiro joined in for the performance in the Boom Festival's 3rd day, Main Floor opening ceremony.
Since its very beginning the TJAK project always was and still is more performance oriented. The connection between the 4 on stage, is always changing, making the shows unpredictable and unique.
Since then these 4 artists each one from a different generations and musical backgrounds, have been developing the performance on stage even further, with some memorable events such as Freedom Festival 2009, Boom Festival 2010 – Sacred Fire, Tuatara – Lisbon, Fabrica do Braço de Prata and Casting Club both in Lisbon.
so finally since last year the recording sessions began, in 24 Hours Studio in Sintra, and now we are proud to present some of what’s been coming out of the Studio.
