A good tip for making psychedelic weird sounds is use the 3 lowest octaves of the keyboard. It is better to remove with eq the low frequencies while you are making the sounds.

Another tip which has become very usefull to me: The best way of amp-LFO'ing soundeffects is by drawing them yourself in automation (by changing volume). When you combine this with some pitch-movement-drawing (can be radical), you can generate very weird and on-rythm sounds quite easily and without cpu-eating fancy effects.
