I have some ideas of some lead patterns/sequences I would like to use, but I can't think of a good way to write them out. By this I mean actually writing out the note pattern along with what sound I would like to make (or atleast get close to). It's hard to come up with words that are similar to the sounds I want since they are really distorted/weird, but I was thinking of just writing out whatever is in my head on paper so it makes some sense to me.
I don't currently have the sounds made in ableton so I will be working to tweak sylenth/operator to my liking. Does anyone have any tips/suggestions for this? What do you all do- do you write it out before hand or just go with what the mood strikes you at the moment? Thanks!

Hi, there is no really a magic recipe for melodies or danceable patterns, but it all can be done with the same piano roll.
Experiment a lot and read what i was told here:
http://forum.isratrance.com/psytrance-riffs/
I found the following tips help:
- Be coherent with the bassline
- Use notes and their upper / lower octaves
- Take care of your "strong" steps, specially the ones in which you'd have a snare sounding... usually beat 2 and 4 in a 4/4 loop are the strongest, but 1 and 3 are also important it is all about contrast and groove.
With time you will develope a personal way to produce what you have in mind; also, if you really have it in mind (or heart?) then it shouldn't be that hard to draw notes on the pianoroll, just hit play and then sing the notes, or tap the table, you should be able to tell where to put a note, and the following...
Also, what you should already know: learn music theory... it is all in there, people have studied this things for centuries now.
good luck |
