Usually while producing tracks (in my case fiddeling around with synths and samples:-)), I get real lazy after a while.
Some things take so much time, that I usually end up closing Cubase.
Small things like writing the drum patterns really annoys me, as well as finding the right samples, scrolling thru numerous folders, writing down the same hihat notes for the 100th X, again I have to look for the right EQ, Comp and other FX settings.
I have just found out, how to export mixer settings .
This is for sure going to save me lots of time.
But I'm curious if people have developed ways to minimalize these processes and work more efficiently.
If you like, please post some tips! |

1. Make EQ-presets. Find a chart on the net, and save them. They wont be exact, but will make the process a bit faster.
2. Save MIDI-files for drums and hi-hats. Just import them to your sequencer and find the right sounds. Change them a bit on each track, so they wont sound the same. This one too is a tiny thing that can save you suprisingly much time.
3. If you music creation doesnt really take a lift off, make samples and save them as wavs. When you do get the right feeling, youŽll have lots of samples to play around with. Same goes for synth-programming.
4.When importing drumloops, take as many as possible at the same time, make them into one wav and syncronize them. When you make the track you always have them handy: You just cut out the part you want to use. This is really usefull in Logic, where you just have to cut and strech out the wole file containing all af the files, making it really easy to compare how the would fit in!
5. When your not in such a creative state of mind, think the process through and try to think which parts of of the process is mechanical and how you can make them more efficient.
6.Learn the key-commands and shortcuts of the program you are using.
There is a few. They are quite similar, but then again making the process more time-efficient is all about the mechanical part of the music creation.
  Peace and Love, seriously! |
