Since i'm a huge fan of Raja Ram I went kablooie went I found out he was coming to Denmark!
What a let-down. I didn't see him live, because...
That was the worst venue I have ever been to (and in Denmark, that is saying something). Too hot, too loud and way too many scary types. Also, those jack-ass organizers promised that he'd play ALL NIGHT! We show up at 2200 and find out he's not on until 0430. Sigh! Typical.
Anyway, it was a killer party for about 2-3 hours - insanely great trance-music and we were dancing like hell, until conditions became intolerable. I can only imagine what it was like, when the master-blaster himself took over.
Not a total let-down, tho. We saw Raja Ram in the flesh, as he strode past us when we had a breather around midnight - as always, wearing his trade-mark fluorescent cap  . Plus, the other djs played Mescaline and we went nuts. I felt like a teenage-girl at a Justin Timberlake-concert (except for the screaming).
I posted this threat in the hope that any of you Isra-trance visitors saw Raja Ram live that night. If yes, please share the experience with me, since I missed the show, and i didn't hear crystal skulls :<
Was he good (I have a strong feeling he was)?
Anyway, i'm off for Earth core carnival this fall to redeem the let-down at Bryggen and see Raja Ram and the others in full force. Hope to see y'all there.

Well, the hightlight of that night, for me was Lucas. I didn't enjoy his compilation from Tip World, but his mixing-skills and track-selection amazed me... it was just perfekt. The night to a step backwards when Raja Ram got on the stage. Starting out with a couple of short tracks mixed into each other, with a lot of crowd-shouting (samples), he then started to mix... which he couldn't. And on every track, he layered some stupid South Park samples... when didn't match at all. Actually, his mixing was so poor, I left after a hour. It was great to see him yes, but his was horrible to listen to... his track-selection was also too commercial, and didn't have a true spirit to it.
But Lucas was worth it, probably the best DJ I've heard. |

Damn! That's not good news. Glad I left early, i guess... I HAD heard that Raja Ram isn't the best mixer in the world, but also that his selection of tracks and stage-performance more than makes up for this.
I guess i just expected something along the lines of the 1200 Micrograms-set on the "Solstice Festival"-DVD, where he goes super-sonic (Have you seen it? It's fantastic!!!). Plus, I've listened to one of his live-sets from Israel on digitally imported and it was just 2 hours of pure enjoyment; excellent mixing, full-on psytrance (i know, some of it is taken straight from the stash-bag compilation, but still) and raw power! One of the best sets i have EVER heard!
Well, so much for Raja Ram's debut in Denmark. Perhaps he just had a bad day. Still, let's NOT forget that:
-This is the guy who brought us Shpongle - arguably the finest electronic music EVER produced (just listen to Divine moments of truth and Seventh Revelation and you won't feel the same way about music, EVER...)
-This is the guy who plays silver-flute in a way that can make you weep and dance for joy
-This is the guy who, while pushing 60 years of age, STILL possess a love and passion for electronic music and psychedelic experiences through parties, that is just so DAMN lovable and infectious.
We salute you Raja Ram, for being there and reminding us why its important to party!
