Two keycommands have really speeded up my workflow:

<alt>s zooms right in to show the selected event(s) as large as possible on the screen.
<ctrl><shift><alt>z returns to the last zoom.

These work in any window.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Shortcuts become tips once people use their brains and figure out how they can be relevent to the way they work...

funny tip in fl!

you have made a melody using your piano roll and you desided that it fits better in another track! dont export midi!! just right click and copy the melody from the pattern and open the other track you want without closing fl just load the next track!
now right click and paste in a new pattern! viola !! the midi is there!

Ctrl+D is not good coz when u make it all the stuff that uve selected doesnt sit in the right place... i mean it looks ok but if u zoom it on full ull c that its not sitting quanatized...

and... Shift+G is cewl thingy! u select a part of the track that u wnt and press ctrl+g it makes it loop and start 2 play...

Make sure the part you are copying is in the correct size. Make sure that it fits exactly x bars (or whatever). Then it'll work.

Apply it as an effect to whatever you want it on. Create a MIDI track and send the output to the MIDI gate. Play with the settings as will.

believe me im sure about it coz im doing it for 4-5 years and yes its not quanatizing goood..... by the way the midi gate doesnt work well if u place 2 notes 1 near each other at least 1/64 if u place ur notes 1/64 1 near the next 1 it will work pefectly.... and the qbase vocoder work like the midigate aswell...

Ableton Live:

Not really a tip, but something I didnt discover until recently...

If you take a midi clip from the arrangement view in live and drag it to the live filebrowser it will save the whole midi tracks settings as a "live clip". This includes the vst synth patch, vst fx settings, automation envelopes and notes in that clip. If you click on it to preview, you will get a full vst render of the midi too. Very handy for filing away loops for later use.

Alternatively, you can make sure "auto fade" is turned on...           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
