Tip of the day?

I started working on music in a slightly different way that I used to. I just yesterday started a song @ 120 BPM, made all the parts in MIDI. I find it much easier to play lines and program drums at this tempo. Then when I thought I had a solid loop @ 120BPM I change the tempo to say 145BPM and it just sits really tight. Anyone else use this method?

Cheers!

you are right imo its also easier to get more punch in the track at this tempo!

one of my last tracks starts off with 120bpm...then in the first break it goes up to 130, and in the second it slowly moves on to 145 and gets a new bass

just need to finish it sometime soon lol           https://soundcloud.com/hazak

sounds wrong to me... if you work with audio parts then thier length and timing will be all wrong once you change bpm so much... and if you work with midi same for envelope times.

thanx jeto

but yeah, from the theory it sounds a bit wrong, but the product doesnt sound too bad to me hehe

if you want you can check it out and tell me your opinion: http://www.sendspace.com/file/wrw5u9

the breaks are still pretty empty and voices, crashs & aviations are still missing, but from the tempo changes it doesnt sound wrong to me...but the track also has 2 faces...it becomes a bit different when its on 145

look at shift for example, sometimes he uses very big tempo changes...like in stretch or push it, and it sounds great imo           https://soundcloud.com/hazak

@faxinadu - if your working with audio, i agree it will be all wrong, but strictly midi seems to work good this way.

@MadScientist - I will check it when i am home           https://www.djjeto.com

I like composing fast stuff on Loopy Fruitz, like 170 BPM killarrrghz. I also work almost completley with audio, so when programming getz too busy i just right click on the BPM and choose twice slower, it helpz.           Dressed to kill you look so right... I am drunk with lust tonite.

if you are often lost in the structure or just want to make a track fast, start around 4 minutes with a loops with leads fx... then for the start of your track you just have to make a logical progression using all leads and fx you created just before talk and answer to each others(you can use few notes of each sounds ,things like that ...) and style the snare and a bit everyhting

maybe just lower the bpm when you record the parts but for me i can play almost anything @ 145 bpm so it doesnt make sense

interesting modus operandi ....

i guess the oscillators would have to be even all across for it to balance at a higher bpm.

do you complete the tracks and then raise the bpm?
fx et all?

i think you could lose the weight in the bassline if your speeding it up that much. and you'd defo need to re-adjust envelopes and that aswell.

I only tried this on one track to make it from scratch at a lower BPM. I haven't finished it yet but will keep you posted on the results.

Its good if your not a professional keyboard player and can not play melodies fast. Its just to put some idea's down and make some MIDI patterns.           https://www.djjeto.com
