Recently Ive been producing at super loud levels on my headphones. Then it took a dj gig where the monitors were too loud to cause I think permanent hearing loss. I have ringing in my ears now 100% of the day. It is really irritating. I am hoping to not listen to music loud at home ever and wear earplugs everytime I go out and maybe the ringing wont be chronic. I doubt it though. You all owe it yourselves to save your hearing. I ignored the warnings and now I am paying for it. If anybody else has had this happen to them, I would love to hear your experience. |

my mother has ringing in her ears, not because of tinnitus, it was from her cancer treatments. now she can't hear certian tones or frequencies.. she can't tell if the shower upstairs is running, if the coffee pot finished (it beeps), sometimes she can't hear me speak.. etc. she also says the pitch of the ringing will drop sometimes.
her ringing doesn't seem to get better, hopefully yours does. respect your ears |

earplugs are very hard to find for music... YOu should always look at the frequency responce... That should be as flat as possible. most earplugs have a good dimming capability for high frequencies, but they let the bassfrequencies thru almost unharmed, and like that you hear a lot off bass, but nothing else when u use the earplugs... Professional audio earplugs aren't as good as silencing, but at least they have an almost flat frequency responce... |

bummer man that really sucks..i'm always super careful about the volume when making music..it helps in making music at a low level..if it sounds good at normal volume it'll always sound good at high levels

well, when u spin u shouldn't be the one responsible for your own ears. The organiser should do everything possible to build a proper dj-booth, which shields the dj from the noise a little. Then you don't have to turn up the volume like that.... But i know that this is not always possible, because not all venues were built properly (most architects don't know how a dj-booth should be built, so i can't blame them either). But a well shielded dj-booth is a necessity if you want to keep the ears of your dj's healthy |

You can kept good plugs, they cost a lot and you need to get them made specifically for your ear but ive heard that the quailty is excellent.
Yeh and never blast it out... even at clubs i try to be careful. |

The price is nothing compared to the price u pay when u have permanent damage...
I've been dj'ing for more than 10 years, and was allways advised by other Dj's to get some earplugs, because the damage could be permanent..
I never did this and got some damage after all these years, but not a constant ringing -phew-...
What i'm trying to say is:
If you continue playing at parties, and make money from it, protect a dj's/producer's ears, as they are his/her most precious tool...
I got some friends who got tinnitus, and sure they aren't happy with it !
What's a few hundred bucks on a destroid career ?
