spl meter to measure but agree with will it s not really needed, but i think our ears are more flat around 85 db but it s fucking loud.. and with not good acoustic i doubt it mean much anyway so imo it s not really needed...

what you can do is if you have a good reference tune is to load it in your sequencer , a/b it to your tune to match the loudness(the reference will be louder cause of mastering and beeing at zero db so you reduce the reference track level so it s at the same loudness than your tune , do this by ear cause numbers dont mean much in this calibration)

then set your monitors at the level the reference tune sound the best and loud, use this same exact level to check your tunes when you re mixing (but you have to calibrate all tunes the same offcourse for example start with kick at -10/-12db peak) , basically it will tell you at that level the tune should sound balanced like this. it can help cause it s like a reference.. or you wont balance things the same depending the loudness you re mixing and you will always adjust the mix depding of the level you listen to it.

dunno how to explain it better.. but hope you get it , basically you set your tunes with the kick at -12db all the time, and then check your mix at the same loudness your reference tune sound the best (but use loud volume to feel the lowend it s important imo ,it s just a calibration to check the balance sometimes while you are mixing)

aim of psytrance is to sound great loud ! many mix sound crap when you push the volume

i listen to music and mix at the same different levels in my studio , i have a quiet /medium and loud calibration ,with getting used to it it get easier to mix , the frequency response and loudness work togehter.

a good mix for me is one you want to crank up the volume knob cause it sound great ..dont even remmeber last time i heard a mix like this( but it was on vinyl ..music today can sound thin wihtout depth and dynamics with harsh top end ...ok to listen on your laptop speakrs but not to shake some 12 inches woofers )

Most of my tinnitus happen when i have calm days....without producing without nothing...
its always very quickly (1 minute max). so whats the problem now??? lolol
strange but is true...

the advice is to mixing at 85 dbspl (fletcher & manson curves). And in theory ours ears can "work" at this volume 8 hours without damage... but 85 dbspl is so so
f#$%$ing high!!!!????            Main Fusion aka Dj Adhara

I generally don't mix louder than 85db spl, and that is only if I really need to hear something out to eq it or perfect it in a other way, generally 80db spl is enough...

If you have an iPhone, get yourself the spl meter app, they use it in studios because it is that good, other than that, you can buy spl meters in shops like radioshack, they are not the best but will suffice.
hey my friend,,how can i calculate the db im listenin in my room ? is some kind of special equipment ?

today 1hour making music (1/2 volume reduced), everything fine (hearing experience NOT)... did a 10min skype call (2/3 volume reduced) and a ear break 5min. sat down for musicproduction again, and before i could start, a 1,86KHZ peak appered in my right ear... its still there. i reproduced the sound with a synth...

i guess nicotine bubblegum in not the best for the ears... but this cant be the reason...

its funny that tinnitus appears at night most of the time.
i guess its a more psychological thing...

well, ill take care and just produce relaxed the next time.

edit: its gone again lol

cheers

i've had some tinnitus some times, when i was thinking that to produce (mix, since i start mixing as i go) i had to have the sound really loud.

so i told to those theories to fuck off, cos they were hurting my ears.

started to have fun in a diferent way.

i produce/mix in really accepteble volume, not loud, but lower.

i've my monitors, my headphones, and my stereo laptop allways ready for realtime check on my mixes.
so i can easily swap between monitors/laptop speakers/headphones on the fly while in cubase.

never felt other tinnitus effect ever since, and the funiest is that my tracks are sounding better.

Stay Fresh.
