No, haven't experienced it in combination with mixing, but I had tinnitus when I was extremely stressed. Take it slow for a while...If you have to mix 7 hours, take frequent breaks. Let your ears rest in complete silence. Relaxing is better than developing a chronic tinnitus. Maybe your tinnitus is also related to different life stress and concentrating hard for 7 h is just too much for your system.

this are my advice :
- don't mix loud and too long and too regularly
- don't mix if you are under pressure or stress
- make breaks and pauses for more than just a few days if you feel it is not really that exciting or feel a sort of force to make music.
This helped me over the last year althugh I have mixed almost each day and yes for houres ,but this attitude was in mind somehow. Tinitus almost absolutely dissappeared.Best is to learn to mix on low volume - at the avarage time - and to change sometimes the volume just for a analytical check.

thanks guys.
i wouldnt say i was stressed.
i was very happy, to find some time for this sideproject,
so i consumed the time, with almost no break.
i try to keep volume down and avoiding useless repeating
loops. maybe i can get better at low level mixing like
TimeTraveller sayed. im also mixing with different levels as
needed... and yeah, making breaks would be smart too lol.
i dont listen with headphones or earplugs. i always protect
my ears at parties etc... i take care of them. thats why i think
its the time duration and yeah, maybe some stress stuff...
and another thing is, i think nearly everybody could hear
some kind of tinnitus when going to bed... its just a more
decent noise. at least, if im focusing on this, i can hear
some freqencies. its just important not making yourself crazy.
at first i found it funny, because i guessed the frequencies.
left about 1 khz and a very high peak about 12khz, a deeper
peak in my right ear lol.
cheers

I mix way too loud.
I've got a little right now actually as well.
It helps if you take breaks, but keeping the volume low is really important though hard to put into practice all the time.
You can also try holding your nose closed with your fingers and trying to blow through it, causing the air to go out your ears- if there is pressure built up.

In my experience mixing for longer than an hour or so at a time will often result in a mix that kind of sucks.
Reminds me of when I would spend hours tweaking kick/bass only to realize that it sounds worse than when I opened up the project

+1 ....
after one hour of mixing my ears aint useful for DETAILED mixing anymore.... u cant listen all the details anymore..specialy in the highs...
so i just stop mixin and go do more creativity stuffs on the track or stuffs that doesnt require so much detail in the ears...

7 hours seems a lot but its what sound engeiners and many producers do almost every day !
like the others said take breaks , its not good only for the ears but for creative processs and more.
we get used and dont notice anymore whats wrong i nthe tune like with fresh ears and mind, breaks help to avoid this and a other reference monitor to check mix too... though it depends what is used, with bm6a in treated room i can mix all day long at loud volume ( well at the volume they can handle that i find more than loud enought) |

7 hours of PURE MIXING ?
or 7 hour of mixing + designin + writing + etc etc...
i realy cant understnad how someone can stay 7 hours in a row mixing when after a very short time the high frequencies starts to sound quiter than they realy are...

it s very complex how our ears work, listening the same thing with fresh ears at one week interval and we probably will do a little different processing on it...imo every day we ear sligthy differently , even with fresh ears it happen to make shit mix at a bad time, but with workflow and experince we learn to compensate and to not get fooled with lisetning reference, listeing on different speakers doing breaks stuff like this to minimise the influence of the state of our ears on the mix |
