How do you make one of those "star" washes... almost like a whole lot of light bell sounds sprinkled in a pad? I hear it in all sorts of music.

hehe

Are you sure you don't mean goldrays?

You need to post a sample so people know what you are talking about.

I'd guess they are arpeggiated, relatively high-pitched notes, with high resonance. Maybe square or triangle waves. And of course delay and/or reverb, and cutoff modulation to create that movement in the sound.

Find some light bell (or wind chime) patch and see how they are made and try modifying them.           When rain dries, clouds form.
When clouds moisten, rain forms.

Nah, try the 'Blue Matrix' ensemble, which comes with Reaktor 4 & 5. It has a beautiful 'snapshot' (preset) called 'Pour HS' or something similar that fits your description.

do you have a microphone sundrop?

if so, break a window and record it
or when you broke it take the glass and drop it all on some hard surface and record it.. add reverb and delay... yeeahw

though thats alot of work for something a synth can do.. hehe

try FM7, Discodsp Nordrack, absynth, Albino..

or this freebee

it will for sure do that and much much more...
