i've been trying to think of a way to describe this event. So far what i'm coming up with is "the best family reunion since Gil's b-day". The people is what made this event for me, hands down. I feel like i've been a hermit this winter cause there were many faces in the desert that I haven't seen in months, and it was absolutely amazing to re-connect with the LA, Oregon, SF and SD tribes again. I wish I could see everybody all the time!

Music wise, I was torn. Magnolia opened the gates to the underworld with the express elevator to hell dialed in at 152 feet per second (or bpms, whatever) which just completely fired up the dancefloor!! (sorry, no pun intended, the fire show during the opening ceremony and dj set was just awesome!)

Greenman carried the energy right along with some funky chunky shredders. then, something happened. The dancefloor died for about 5 hours, possibly the music, possibly something else, but for me, the music just did not move me at all. I just could not connect with it, maybe it was the frequencies generated or perhaps my antennae was broken, but I was very disappointed with the way the other artists let the dancefloor energy just die like that.

A DJ's main purpose is to entertain the crowd and make people dance, and i'm sorry to say it but the middle of the night just lacked that intention. a good dj will adapt to a poor dancefloor energy by changing their sound in the middle of a set to get the feet moving again. You have to dial into the energy of your audience and adapt to them, not the other way around.

very sad, because if the energy stayed up as high as it was in the beginning, this could've been one of the parties of the year. After having a great tribal stomp the first couple hours I found myself standing there waiting for something to move my feet or tickle my brain, but it just wasn't there. This of course is just my opinion and observations, to each their own for musical tastes, but after seeing a lot of people just standing there, I don't think I'm alone with this assumption.

I waited for fria to throw some lightning bolts or something amazing based on all the hype, but the beginning of her set just forced me to the sleeping bag to catch some zzzzz's, again I found myself waiting for something exciting to happen with the music but was left empty headed.

But, of course Murphy's Law came into play because I woke up to the end of her set which was rolling really hard, damn I wish I could've stayed awake.

Once the cobwebs in my dome disappeared, Dylalien and Dai had me moving again. There's just something I love about quirky, bouncy, bubbly, and CLEAN trance music. You can really feel the heart in dylan's tunes cause it just forces you to smile and bounce around uncontrollably. Dai, thanks for droppin an Arabali tune, that was the first time I heard that one on Brad's full-system I'll get you a copy of the new remix I did for that track.

Thank you very much to Catalyx and the Mindfull family for providing another incredible gathering of the minds. I give the vibe at this party an A+++ and look forward to the next one. namaste.           We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

I must say I think the music was not the main thing in this event and not because it was good or bad, just because everything was SO SO amazing. The Fire, the stars, the people. I was feeling blessed to be there. I could not dance most of the night because the visuals of the desert and everything around were far stronger than any music can be.
Thank you Bedioun and all the fire people for providing the setting and thanks to the organizers.
One comment, if this event has so much to do with "ones" with mother earth and spiritual gods, hw can we leave our toilet papers behind the bushes? I truely hope one day our level of spirituality will rise to feel the pain we cause the eath and the spirits by leaving our western accessories (spelling?)
in the spirits land.
but still had a blast....

Hey trance-mama
yr pics are awesome!!

i just wanted to add that the music playing directly before Xyla was def. not appropriate and not psychedelic and not a good lead in to the insanity that was to come. I don't think EBM ever belongs at a psy trance party....

thank you everyone for a beautiful night around the xlr8r! the minute i walked out on to the dancefloor i felt so happy to be there.........can we all just move to mojave???

the only set i whose music i found interesting was xyla.....a very intense emotional experience would be an understatement....

i feel that the kali energy that was called manifested itself in many ways, for me i think positively, i definatley put a lot of things to its final rest out there, and feel pretty cleansed by the whole experience...... but i saw that others got thrown pretty out of balance for a while there.....

thank you to all the xlr8r crew and to the orgainzers for creating what is always an amazing gathering(=
i hope we all are there together again sometime soon!!!

oh yeah!!!! and i lost my grey and black pancho/shawl thingy if anyone found it please pm me

I remember that poncho! You let me wear it for a while at the party in Tecate not too far back. It's so soft and kept me warm! Hope you find it!!!

I mostly agree with you Tom, musically this party fell short in the night....Very sad indeed, moonless kali night and all, I did not find the music psychedelic enough!
But Dylan, thanks again for bringing in those funny, playful and extremely psychedelic sounds. It's always a pleasure to hear you go insane in the dessert mornings.

Just have to throw in my 2 cents, what a beautiful desert gathering. Being from the deserts of Mexico myself I think I just feel at home there...

The Kali ritual, the lovely fire performers, and the incredible fire/portal opening itself were by far what in my opinion stole the show!
It was my first time ever experiencing these powerful rituals and I will never forget it!

To amanda, the xlr8r crew, the beautiful dancers and all those involved....

Thanks and cheers!

I had a great time, despite being quite exhausted and missing Xyla...

I agree, the energy kinda went *kerplop* after a few hours...

Liam Shy was a strange pick, Im not too familiar with that style of stuff, it was cool to hear it but I think indoors at a club would have been a better setting. Strange, not bad at times, but sorta out of place. I fell asleep towards the end of his set.

Morning was cool, didn't really have much energy by that point..

We were actually one of the first ones there, and were sorta confused, having never been there, and ended up driving around in a big circle before turning around, and eventually finding a caravan. We set up camp in what turned out to be pretty much the opposite end of the party from the music, which was nice because it was sorta quiet, but it sucked too because we were so far from everyone... I would have liked to have been more social, but oh well, there will be another time!

Also, it seemed that everyone used the area around our camp as the toilet... One thing I have to say about that: Kindly bury your dung.

Looking forward to the next one!           .

Wow, an intense desert experience! It always feels like home to me in the Mojave! It was so nice to dance with so many friends from near and far.
I was really dissapointed with the lack of organization in this event. The lack of toilets for that many people, who were obviously not prepared and not educated to handle their waste properly was really disturbing. To see so much trash and human waste spread around such a magical place was like a really big stab in the heart.
You could say i was less than inspired by the music at the party. I think it would have been greatly improved if there was some element of flow put into the lineup for the nite. From the very get go it was just really banging and intense. I didn't really feel like i was going anywhere, just digger deeper and deeper in the desert. I like it when the flow and lineup take you on a journey, both into and out of the trance experience.
Although i thought that Xyla's set was a bit too long for that setting, i really enjoyed the music she played. Quite a different experience! I wish that the rest of the lineup would have been crafted differently, and i think her set would have been received better by more people.
The intro to Dylan's set was fucking hilarious, and quite possibly one of the funniest things i have ever heard, i wish i was on the dancefloor for that!
Anyways, lots of love to all you freaks! was great to dance with you all!
peace!
