9 years.. still learning
i think i jumped level in the sound evry time i learned new trick , or got new device.
biggest noticeable jump was 2 years ago when i got the dynaudio monitors and made acoustics in my room.
apearntly to draw in dark room with sunglasses will never get you to same place.          www.sattelbattle.com

I went to Uni in 2000 and that is when I first started properly messing around with Cubase on my own. In 2001 I started buying my first hardware and switched over to Logic, which I decided is going to be my sequencing/audio package which suited my way of working. 2003 I released my first breakbeat records on Streetwise Records in the UK. 2004 I had (blowingmy own horn here) my first number 1 records in magazines like DJMag and Mixmag (the beats 'n' breaks charts) and started getting plays on big radio stations in the UK (BBC Radio1, Capital, Kiss FM..etc).
At that point, I was considered "good" in the breakbeat scene at least.
Our first psychedelic trance release is lined up for May (Clear Skies LP) so it took also 9 years for me to make a trance album.
Which was a great learning experience and it shoes in the few tunes we have ready for the 2nd LP, which are a great learning experience as well...and more I learn the more I realise I have a lot more to learn and that is the whole beauty of it

5 years and i am just now getting to a point where i feel almost ok with things like trusting my ears but for the most part have an immense amount of learning ahead. I feel like i just barely passed the aptitude test to get into the intermediate school.

Now i find out i have soo much more homework.
