Tikal- ritual cycle

1 equinox 145bpm
2 sunshine middle east 145bpm
3 time is running out 145bpm
4 breath (rmx) 145bpm
5 jazzistique 145bpm
6 mr. Pink 145bpm
7 aura (rmx) 145bpm
8 horn travel 120bpm
9 canicule 95bpm

The duo from Tikal, ”The Tikal Brothers” from France with there uniq sound. Both of them have a guitarist and percussionist background and started to writing electronic music 2 years ago.
The music style is Psytrance with etnic sounds and vocals. Verry nice peace of work, nice production, good atmosphere and the best part is the samples and how they use it. Just perfect!!!
For me maybe this album is little bit fast (145bpms) but for sure there is a pitch on the cd players this days..
My edvice to these guys: Keep up this style....!!!

Label: Neurobiotic

My favorite trax:
NR 2 sunshine middle east: With the said indian vocal, cool sounds and very psychedelic line
NR 5 jazzistique: Female voice sample gives it gregorian character
NR 7 aura (rmx): With Orientaly sounds, reminds me of an old greek track with trance sound )

Ratings:
Cover: matching with the music 8/10
Ideas and production: 7/10
Album structure: 7/10

Tikal - [RITUAL CYCLE] . Neurobiotic Records

Freebie - Mini Dj Sleeve insert (half size of cover)

Tracklisting

1. Equinox (Rate 8/10)
[8.17 mins] - 145 BPM
Awesome track! I found it a lil bit cheesy at first but when the vocals came it changed my mind, melodic, stomping yet great and groovy! Good for dancefloor!

2. Sunshine in Middle East (Rate 9/10)
[8.20 Mins] - 145 BPM
Correct me if i am wrong, this track i think was inspired by the Movie 'Black Hack Down' I recall vividly those vocals. I like it a lot after the vocals 4 min plus. It gets groovier and melodic along with the vocals!

3. Time is Running Out (Rate 7/10)
[7.13 Mins] - 145 BPM
The only track without ritual vocals. I quite fancied this track although i found it a bit repetitive. But it is still a great track!

4. Breath (RMX) (Rate 8.5 / 10)
[7.45 Mins] - 145 BPM
Wowo great treack and remix from the Bamboo Forest track! Fantastic vocals, although it was quite quiet in the middle of the track, towards the end the melodies and vocals blend really well. Great track!

5. JAzzistique (Rate 7/10)
[7.53 Mins] - 145 BPM
Another great track with vocals, very danceable and groovy. Some nice melodic samples as well

6. Mr Pink
[10.14 Mins] - 145 BPM
Track starts with some mini conversation talking about who is who. Found it quite hilarious When the beat comes it really is groovy. Another great track.

7. Aura (RMX) (Rate 10/10)
[7.52 Mins] - 145 BPM
My favourite TRACK! How groovy can this track get? It starts with some vocals, i dont know what language it is. After that, some nice rythmic upbeats, i wasnt sure if it would blend with the bass. But that wasnt the case. Super groovy track! Just awesome! Listen to it

8. Horn Travel (Rate 7.5/10)
[7.00 Mins] - 120 BPM
A nice rather downtempo track which i think isnt really for the dancefloor. But what better way to relax after some nice 7 tracks of dancing

9. Canicule (Rate 8/10)
[8.07 Mins] - 95 BPM
The downtempo track of the album which fits nicely in the end. Pretty nice downtempo track after all 145 BPM sounds it your head

Recommended for:
People who have goten a bit bored of the usual full-on, this will serve you as a refreshing style of full-on. Melodic and groovy. I was never a fan of tracks with vocals but this proved me wrong! My favourite album so far in 2004!

Freebie:
This is good for djs as it is smaller than the usual cd cover, you can take your cds out more easily than the usual tray card which comes at the size of regular cd cover.

Artwork: Fantastic and cute!

Final RATE : 9/10

Chobo, great you recognized the sample from black hawk down!!!! We were thinking not many people would recognize it!!!
And thanx for your review... I would also like to underline the wonderful work Arnaud (Trash design) did for the cover of this album...
He's also making the cover for Altom new album, he'sa talented graphic artist, he can work freehand (as the case of the Tikal cover) or futuristic 3d style (as Altom cover will be, check http://www.neurobiotic.com to have an idea of this new masterpiece).

The vocals on mr. Pink are from a Quentin Tarantino movie... let's see who will find out where is this from

It's a smasher for sure, another aerobic pusher for my rehearsals....hehehe....

But one tracks peaks out of the album imo, thats jazzistique. Simply because I play saxophon aswell and it's nice to hear some in a track....*yeah*

Is it played by yourself, or is it just a sample??

Keep it up, "mes mecs"           >>>HoLy NuDiTy<<<

I don't understand so much why people really like this album.
I don't think there is a lot of originality in these tracks, except maybe for the vocals but a little bit has been used in this way.
I don't like so much all the synths used and the global sound production which is very noisy, and with a too loud level, almost distorted (master?), very confused and not so clear sound.

but the cover is very great!!

reading all your reviews and comments i had to get this cd...did so and yes, i very very much like it, the ultimate morning sound for a couple of people i know...

if any swiss dj-person reads this...put the cd in your bag, bring it up to the mountains this summer and play some of it when the sun rises...i'm sure you'll have everybody stomping with a huge smile on their face.

plus i'll then finally get to listen to it on a big sound system...

nice : )
cheers

very recommendable cd, a great start...
in my opinion is possible feel the help of Bamboo Forest in this album, but this is not bad, they are also one of my favourite producers.
About the album, i think is in a very possitive way, out of any agressive stuff, with nice melodies and nice vocals, basically NICE VIBE
Keep the good work guys!!!

This album definitly stands out from the crowed, an individual work. And the Pink Floyd sample drove me mad trying to remember what it was from.
