I thought that a thread with tips on how to create those scrumptious tit-bits of noise [the ones that put oomph into the psychadelia of all psy] we all love would be most suitable, anyone?

Man, give examples of what you mean.
Tracks with those sounds for instance.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

well, the one that sticks in my mind is that stretch/squeak sound at the end of GMS's Arabian Nights on M...

I'm talking about weird sfx and mind boggling burb and fart thingies, basically: how to make interesting bits 'n pieces in your music.

I see. i managed to make something like that in Reason, i'll try to find that preset and explain how to make it or alternatively send it to you.
And as for "farts and bleeps" i can recomemnd you Waldorf attack. Just push randomize button, and you'll be amazed by the sounds.

i think he means a variety of things like the pitch bending based sounds at the beginning of something like Pap's Pelf the little Elf or low frequency squelchs like a lot of the dark minimalist acts are so fond of using (tripiatrik/yumade)

for squelches, try taking a very very low pitched saw wave, such that you can hear each individual oscialltion seperated from one another, crank up the resonance, the put long reverbs and delays on the sound, play a single long note and do a filter sweep, from closed low pass filter to open, so the sweep echos off, and you have a basic squelch type sound.

Try to find SH1o1 samples and you'll get what you want.

u can try this:
take white noise source into a 2PBPF,
route it into a VCA controlled with a sine wave from another VCO, and put it into a VCF that is connected to a knob.
here u have 3 degrees of freedom:
main noise freq (BPF),
sine freq(VCO),
VCF value.

u can also mix this with some triang wave together.

route this all into a reverberator/flanger.

and then into a delay maybe.

enjoy the soup.
don't spill on your pants

bom

P.S.
u'll need a modular synthesizer (better an analogue... a Moog for example )

Great stuff guys!

~Bilbobagginz: Young Frodo here understands what you are saying to some extent, I just need to get me hands on a modular synthesiser again.

What I like to do is get squeaky toys and things that make bizzare sounds and harras my microphone with them. Then effect them till they sound criminally insane. The result is customized samples I can drop in on breaks 'n stuff.

I find that I can get alot of crunch out of these samples by eq'ing after giving them a good look over in a spectral analyser, then fiddling with some distortion and reverb.

After you got the basic sound the best effect in my opinion to make them sound "fluid" is a flanger.

just make some complex synth shit and procces it through rough effects like phaser and delay add distortion or fuzz and then rearange it with caution

not big deal           ***dread controls***
