I mean, it was a whole year before i understand the wonders of bouncing. Also the cubase3sx pitch shift process, short fade out on audio clips to remove clicks and many of that little tricks that make you think like "oh this was the right way to do it..."

Wanna share?

So can you share with us the wonders of bouncing then? I am still a beginner and prefer not to bounce tracks to audio if I have enough CPU left. Are there reasons other than saving CPU power for bouncing?

Thanks.           -------------- Dark & Twisted Night Psy --------------

Ever wanted an instant reverb / delay kick? Maybe a pitch shifting kick retriggering. Maybe a snare roll with a fade in envelope and flanger?

Bounce is the answer.

It is a little tricky and i didn't understand first time they talked to me about bouncing. But the thing is: assign bounce to a shortcut, then you can easily say, for example create a snare roll with cloned snare samples. Then you select them all together and bounce them, replace the files then you have all the snares in a single audio clip in which you can adjust envelopes, apply audio process like reverse, pitch shift and all non tempo based vst plugins, say all kinds of modulation.

You do this by right clicking on the audiotrack (cubase) going to process / plugins then applying. U even have an preview button.

This can boost your production time a lot, specially if you hot key your favorite delay / reverb and process like normalize, reverse, etc.

Also very fun to clone samples, bounce then pitch shift with envelope to create instant buildups, or reverse like effects.

Very creative applications and ideal when chopping audio clips 'a la eskimo'. Just don't forget to clean your project folder after a bouncing session cause you might end with many unused files filling your hrd drive.

A good advice on creating reverbered / delayed stuff is to cut a little empty space of the audio file and move it apart from the original creating silence betwen them, so you can bounce them together and create space for your time based fx to work. Practice and shortcuts make this quite simple.

p.s. by bouncing i mean the actual bounce function@ process menu, not the export / audiomixdown thing.
PM if you have any doubts.

This all sounds extremely fascinating and hard to understand (due to my low level of knowledge). I'm going to ponder on this for a while before I bother you with dumb questions
My only question is, bounce @ process menu? What is it and what does it do? Sorry for being so illiterate, this should hopefully get me started
Thanks for the info!           -------------- Dark & Twisted Night Psy --------------

Ok, when selecting an audio clip or clips go to audio menu and then select Bounce Selection (sorry is not in process i forgot since i only use it by hotkey).

Bounce will colapse many clips into one single clip creating a new wav file in the audio folder of your project and allowing you to edit it without afecting previous copies. Think of it as a quick render which works only with audioclips, for "bouncing" midi you'll have to export mixdown xD

hope it helps...

Bouncing changed my life.

Try RRR for a zany effect.

Reverse an audio part, goto Audio - Plug Ins - Reverb and set it to about 30 - 50%, process the part and then reverse it again.

What you have now is a sound in which the reverb is reversed. Greatness.

i think, its like a "tip of the day" thread ... not everyone wants to share his best secrets^^
but "secret" is relative to everyone

let me ask you, so "bouncing" also could be:
for example export only kick/bass (4 beats), and copy it in a new audiotrack...
or just easy record kick/bass in a new audiotrack.

this new audiotrack can now be edited/treated as a "whole"...
that means you can plug in much effects, without effecting the original kick/bass in this case.

my english sucks and im new too, thats why i said it again in my words.
did i miss something, or am i right?^^

greetings, orgy

Bouncing (or rendering in FL) is a very creative tool imo! Especially for percussion this is a handy tool. Just try this:

- Bounce a breakbeat or some of your percussion together
- put it in 1 octave lower (= half the speed, half the pitch).
- route this thru a HP filter (or some more effects) in order to make it sound less low/muddy
- use this new sample, chop it, reverse it etc.

And to save cpu you can put the fattest reverbs/delays on let's say a woosh or efx, then bounce it, then route it to a rythmic gate, bounce again and then the above trick etc...           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

be aware that ctrl-d gives with sx3, when done fast, mistakes, so check the files, events to part is often needed, at least thats what happens with me.

right... but in this case i wanted you to share those things that made your production easier.

Shortcuts are a must... BTW Contol+d is unaccurate if the clip is not exactly placed/sized but if it is it will work fine, also i use the area selection tool (number 2 on the keyboard) along with quantize so i can move, edit, delete groups of clips even in different channels. Also selection is editable so it is easy to contract or expand it just by draging the blue selection box border.

Other helpful things along the road that made me happy when i found out:

- Equim VST
- Distortion specially Quadrafuzz
- Bitcrusher
- Stereo wideners
- Time stretching samples
- Granular fx
- Portamento setup
- Bazzism
- BBE Maximizer

Also it was until a few months ago when i was tought how to change cubase clip colors. I always disliked the pastel colors default in sx3 so i went to the color palette upper right in the sequencer window and select the setup option at the botton, then i have bright color palette which are easier to identify when working and inspire me to create brighter sounds n_n'

cheers

i love
- toxic biohazard
- EQ reaplug- reaFIR (straight cuts 100%) freeware

what really helps me when i got no idea for melodies etc. i listen to some old metalbands and maybe copy (get inspired) the harmonics of the bassline/leads... (yes i love metal too^^)
