Just my opinion but, skip the cities, especially Vegas and skip Disney.
Just bum around the west coast. Seriously. Hitch hike up and down the coast (include British Columbia, Canada's westernmost province). You can backpack your way through all the summer festivals (don't limit yourself to psy, there's so much more going on all season everywhere), experiencing a wide variety of environments, nature, and geography across the diverse regions. You'll have no problems meeting people, hooking up, and carrying on from place to place. You'll have the time of your life and really get the vibe of the true North America that exists outside of the bullshit political construct that's represented to the rest of the world. |

i don't think you can claim that it would represent the 'true' vibe of North America any more than hanging with strippers in Vegas will.
Most of what you from festival hopping is the vibe of hippie West Coast culture, which is just one very thin layer of America, and not really representative of anything except itself.
  ..it's just another party.. |

I have actually traveled outside of the country more than inside of the Country. I have actually wanted to get some more US travelling in as well.
You could name off so many places. New York City, White sand beaches in Florida,New Orleans for some southern Cajun hospitality, southern and northern California, Grand Canyon, Vegas, Yellow stone, and so many other places. it would be easier if you knew what part of tye US you would be in.
