Yes, it's difficult to believe, but it seems there wasn't.
My easy definition of Live is: An artist playing only his own music with at least a laptop, but he may use any other hardware he wants to.
This is a very simple definition, I'm sure a lot of people will disagree, but it is useful for the purpose of this topic.
PLEASE stay ON TOPIC and go fight about what is a Live act elsewhere, there are zillions of thread about it.
A lot of people say that "Goa had the best vibes", so in this topic I want to be sure if there were Live Acts in Goa. If not, this suggests that Live Acts are a product of the commercialization of the psytrance music genre, since the Lives are not necessary to create the best vibes.
I'm looking for replies like the one of THIRD EYE RECORDS in the previous page.
Respect!

Does having a Laptop or a synth on the stage make it being a liveact?
I wouldn't say that makes it a liveact.
I been to a few of the parties mentioned here as having liveacts as well as played myself there many times with laptop and keyboard and I cannot say I experienced or performed a liveact in Goa.
Adding a sound or two on top of a mixdown is not making a liveact IMO.
There is three reasons I think that there luckliy is a rare occasion that anyone even pretend to play live in Goa.
Most of all the dedicated party freaks there don't care much for the looking at the stage in awe worshipping their favourite artists.
They are there to interact with eachother and having someone perform on a stage interrupts the feeling on the dancefloor.
Also the reason people do liveacts is usually commercial reasons. It will not result in a greater experience for the attendants of the party, but it will pay more than a DJ set and be good promotion.
In Goa you don't get paid to play...there is usually no flyers and elevated prominent stages so people many times don't even know who's playing when.
And of course to bring you equipment to Goa is something you don't do because you hoping to maybe make a liveact for free. And if you bring it the goa dust will penetrate deep into evey potentiometer and fader after one party....a more unhealthy environment for hardware is hard to find.

Totally Not agree with you... maybe that if you let your sequencer playing during the whole time maybe... But if you really perform something / interact with the music as many guys do in electronic music (less in psy...) it really don't have the same inpact as a dj set...

um... we're not talking about live music....
we are talkin about a 'live act' which is electronic music played with certain equipment that supposedly gives the artist more controle than a regular DJ set.
Going back to definition of live act... there are many definitions of what is live and not live... but the main difference between a live act and a dj set is that in a live the artist plays only their own music, and usually doesnt use CDJ's to execute.
technically what is 'live' and 'not live' is a topic that is up for a lot of debate

thats true, but what percent of live acts just let the sequencer play the whole time with the artist just adding minimal sounds / effects etc... to the sequence?
when a sequence is being played, the artist actually has less controle than in a DJ set... in a sequenced live set the artist does not have that much power to change the direction of the set, so why call it 'live' ?
you want real live set, find out about PsySex live set at ecliptic-trance party in NYC last year / or the year before. (I wasnt there, but by the description of the equipment and how they used it seemed pretty impressive to me)

I wouldnt trust a DJ who would mess with 145+ BMP.
DJ sets sound much safer...more Potent....
Altough the kind of music DJs from Bombay play in Goa r so fluffy....
Live or dead, Goa is always killer.....
If only the Good DJs had a bigger say as to what kind of music should be played to nourish the Human race.
Boom. |

@spiritual mind
you are quite mistaken by saying that Dj's from Bombay play fluffy music.
(though u are right in that often the bombay dj's who play in goa play morning soundz)
If you here most bombay Dj's, and go to parties in Bombay, you will realize that the type of sound people like in Bombay is not fluffy at all, infact a lot of bombay people prefer quite psychedelic and dark music, full on and and high energy, but quite twisted... infact look at the recent compilations comming out of Bombay by Temple Twisters / Digital Distortion....
yes Bombay has morning labels too like Third Eye,
but I wouldnt call it fluffy music. But good blasting morning music.
You need all kinds.
The music tastes in bombay are very cutting edge which ever style you want to talk about.
Inner Action. is what I have to say. Good example of killer morning music that is not fluffy.

i think the Finnish guys played what looked like a live set only with their computer couple of years ago.
They seemd to be adding loops on the go. Can't remember where....it was a day party...maybe Dolce Vita... Mandalavandalaz, Salakavala and others. |

@ Jehan
Bombay DJs, especially 3rd Eye, plays Crap.
You couldn't sit, you couldn't talk,you couldn't dance,you couldn't move,you couldn't laugh, you couldn't cry, you couldn't smoke...nothing!!!
You couldnt do a thing with the kind of music our main man from 3rd Eye plays.
Now thats what I call 'Diabetic' music...it was Bland, non Psychedelic, Utterly Rubbish!
Its like the sort you feel like having a spicy meal after.
'Club' it with the other Russian residential DJ who stays in Goa.
This culture has evolved.....
We can't have chocolate boys taking us through journeys which leads us to nowhere.
And the problem is that all the new people think that this is it!!!!
'Killer dude!!!'
'Is this....is this it???'
Sorry my friend...We'll pass.
And as will many others.
What DJs we have in Goa.
What Story tellers.
What Humans.
What Ability.
What Strength.
What Skills.
What Visions.
Above ALL!!!!!
What Choice.
3rd Eye is Shut!!
Open!
For the Universe comes to an End when it does.
Boom! |
