This was probably already discussed and i'm sorry for that.
When we start making more complex song project, making offline process, export and import loops and stuf like that,eq,compr, fx plugins.... i'm easly lost in my work mettod.
what i wan't to now, is or mettod of work (probably better then mine ).
For example.....
Make a midi line for one synth, then export to audio....then work with the fx......
or
after export to audio you eq first, and compreese or you only eq or is better export the more dry signal possible....
Sorry the mess, but my english
knowledge is not good too |

thought about that a lot. and the answer i found for me is: it doesn't matter!
almost everything is possible depending what you actually want to do. i just recommend to be careful with comps and eq if you bounce after processing and use the result again. mostly u can do later.
for short synth lines, samples and fx i often bounce with some fx and use the processed signal as audio. after eq or comp or both. i only use eq and comp before to remove unwanted frequencies triggering the following fx.
for main leads, bassline and stuff i tend to work in midi. fx chain example: eq --> comp --> (eq) --> fx --> (eq) --> fx.
like this u can adjust everything and draw automations. in the very end i bounce the final result.
but actually u can do like u want if there's enough cpu. place fx where u like but comp just where it's needed imo. read how a comp works exactly and u will see the difference between placing eq before or after. both possible but different. reverb and delay is often used in the end of a chain or even as sends. except (how i wrote before) you are for example running a loop thru delay, bounce only the wet amount and use the result again.
i make each track (not the whole song, just synth line i.e.) that i like the sound and don't want to make dramatical changes anymore. if this is done by midi, audio, weird fx and bouncing afterwards doesn't matter. then i mostly place eq --> (comp) --> fx --> and sends of course...
only some inputs, i'm sure there are great producers who do everything completly different. just try out. and sorry for the poor english also |

I have folders for Leads, Kick & Bass, Percussion, Pads, Uplifters and FX with respective group channels for each one.
Once I've written a MIDI part I normally bounce it down through a few different patches centered and without any inserts, then do all the work on the audio. |
