A lot of people on this forum are always saying they can never finish a track.I finished like 50 tracks so far in almost 2 years.Some of them good(in people's opinions here)and some still need work.I think the problem lies in the fact that as psytrance producers we kind of become perfectionists when we produce for example...make sure all the levels are right,the eq,the panning,making sure freq's dont cut eachother up,labeling stuff,with all this we sometimes forget about musicianship and what Music really means.I think the best way to go about this...the way i do it is if i come up with an idea while making a diff. track..if i hear a preset i like but i can make it into something else..and a riff..open a new project...put that down.Then start on the intro..from step to step...once u have main kick/bass u have most of where the song is going IMO.Dont worry about levels..make everything go in the red..dont worry about panning as you are going along u can do some quick fixes along the way but if u trying to be to perfect u will stop and get stuck and bored.Also trying to follow patterns of every psy song wont help.Obviously there is a basic pattern to be followed but every pattern we know..weknow when the next kick and bass is coming in.Sometimes they trick us.Play around.Work on ur own song construction..even if it doesnt neccesarily make sense in the psyworld.Dont label everything and color code unless u r using 999 tracks.Move fast and gather as musch as u can.Then go listen to some music and work on other projects.Dont just make loops.Use samples for percs besides percs u make to add gallop.I dont know.these are some thoughts.My first track has been worked on for over 70 hours.Some tracks im finishing now for people(not specifically psy)in like 5-6.If u get stuck on something for to long start a new prpoject or work on old ones labelling stuff and working out levels.Peace.
