dude i got the impression that u understand some stuff about the equipment
sure u can compare these (or any) plugs to the real shit
but the scale go way down on "real shit" side
lets say that....
1st i thought logic comps was way too good
till i bought dbx266
then i understood logic comp is piece of crap compare to (still piece of crap) dbx comp
then i built a clone of ssl400 and its put stamp that says "crap" offitialy on dbx266"
one thing about digi/soft compared to REAL analog is that analog REALY do what u TELL him to do
not like digi that EMULATES the function in 1001010000101010011110 (with eq's u hear most difference about this imulation/real)
from all equipment in the studio all the mastering MUST be analog if u realy care about the sound
thats why im getting pissed off on every one of other "new age artist" that bulshit me about sound quality and still use crapy vst for the final mixings

Very true. And another point, believe me there are enough people that can make anything worse with analog stuff, same with digital equ. There is no black/white solution.
If someone tells me only with 100% analog stuff u will reach the top of quality ill laugh about it.

I don't think you understood my post. I said that people should not compare the plugs to the real thing before they actually try both analog and software versions of said gear. People should not start saying "ah this plug in looks very nice, I don't need the real deal, or I bet they sound exactly the same sicne Waves released them...etc"
For exactly the same reasons you argued about quality, people will listen to something and say "wow this sounds great", until the hear something better...once people have used both analog and software versions, then they should compare SSL's and Waves products directly.
By the way I am not saying that the plugs in question are going to sound shit or amazing. I am just saying that I am reserved from getting overly excited, from my past experience with Waves plug ins.

Lets forget all this shitty digital software emulations,and saving for buying the real deals !!!
And spare some more for the ground building acoustics,Uber expensive monitors,maybe the new ones from wallmounted Genelec or even the B&W 800 series !!!
Surely this is the only way of writing some nice stuff!!!
Most ppl that speaks this way,are the first to stuff the mix in L3 one after the other...
Most artists nowadays work software, buy magazines frequently and read lots of interviews with dance music stars,who turned software!!!90%
After some these emulations beeing released,i say at least 80% of the artist is doing total digital music today..software is getting better and better and the only reason for not beeing even better is piracy!!!
There are plenty examples for stuff beeing released that has awsome quality!!

SSL4000
Neve Channel Strip(Uad-1)
Roland Space Echo Re-201(UAd-1)
All Tc stuff (MDD3;SOny Oxford Bundle;VSS3 etc)
Digidesign xclusiv plugs
Funny none of these have cracked versions running around in P2P

SSL is not a DSP plugin,well,I think it will be released for APA-DSP from waves but also runs native!!When i bought my powercore i had 1.6 Driver running and there was Sony Oxford cracks for EQ and Inflator and also some for waldorf D-Coder (Vocoder for the powercore),they also run in DSP platform !!
The issue today is about trying to erase piracy so companies write the precious codes and make better quality software !!!The protection is getting better and better,when its perfect,i expect many good things happening in the software world !! |

Squarepusher thats true that 90% of music is pc generated
its not mean that its good quality
and that cause ppl to get used to digi sound more and more
and then again...
enough that some artist will use his moog for fat bassline and some good transistor/tube compresor for his dynamics and sudenly all those ppl consider him as "GOD OF SOUND" like it happen in the past
im not begin a/d flame-war here just telling my point of view....
i dont know how future sotf will sound
24 bit sound will never be any close to analog
i dono how 64 bit music will sound but i asume it will be closer to analog and u still will notice the slight change that will make all the difference
myself using reaktor for 90% of my track
and then again i dont do any "pro" mixing at my studio
when time to mix for label i go to friends studio with good acoustics and with some cheap/fancy analog sound procesors and do the mix
thats the minimum i can get
its easier and cheaper to use cracked softs for sure
